The application procedure of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, previously known as Thapar University, is to be accomplished online by visiting the official website of the university. - For admission to B. E. and B. Tech. (Lateral Entry), the candidates must hold a diploma of 3 years of duration after senior secondary school in the relevant field securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates with B. Sc. From a recognized university securing at least 60% marks in aggregate are also eligible for admission to B. E. and B. Tech. (Lateral Entry).
- For admission to Integrated BE-MBA, the candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology and technical Vocational securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- For admission to B. Tech. in Biotechnology, the candidates must have passed senior secondary school with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
For postgraduate programs
- For admission to M. E. and M. Tech., the candidates must have completed B. E./B. Tech. in the relevant field securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates who have completed M. Sc. In the relevant field are also eligible to apply for M. E. and M. Tech.
- Candidates seeking admission to MBA must have graduated in any field securing at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
- For admission to M. A. in Psychology, the candidates must have passed Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Arts/Science/Allied Sciences securing at least 50% marks in aggregate.
- For admission to M. Sc., the candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in the science stream securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates seeking admission to MCA must have possessed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates must have studied Mathematics in senior secondary school for admission to MCA.
For Ph. D. program
Candidates seeking admission to Ph. D. program must have completed their master’s in the relevant field securing at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
Admission to the undergraduate programs at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
Candidates seeking admission to the undergraduate programs offered by the institute must register themselves by visiting the official websites of the institute.
- For admission to B. E., B. Tech. and Integrated BE-MBA, the candidates must qualify JEE Main examination and for lateral entry admissions, the candidates are shortlisted based on the merit in LEET-TIET.
Admission to the postgraduate programs at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
- Candidates seeking admission to M. E. and M. Tech. must appear in and qualify GATE examination. The candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in GATE followed by personal interview round.
- Admission to MBA is done based on the marks obtained by the candidates in CAT/MAT/XAT/NMAT/CMAT/GMAT entrance examinations. Final selection is made based on their performance followed by group discussion and personal interview rounds.
- Form admission to MA, the candidates are shortlisted based on merit list based on marks obtained by the candidates in senior secondary school and graduation.
Admission to Ph. D. at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology
- Candidates willing to take admission to Ph. D. are required to have passed the written examination test followed by personal interview round conducted by the institute.

Placement: Thapar has very good placement statistics with many top companies visiting the campus. The overall placement percentage stood up at 96% with top pacakages going upto 40 lakhs. the average pakage offered is 6 lakhs.
