About Kotak Education Foundation
For over sixteen years, the Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) has been dedicated to empowering children and youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by providing education and foundational skills, guiding them towards a brighter future. KEF’s “Inch Wide Mile Deep” approach focuses on delivering quality education to low-income communities, resulting in successful projects across India.
KEF’s efforts are centered on three main areas:
- Holistic interventions in schools: Supporting children and educators.
- Equitable scholarships: Providing financial assistance for higher education.
- Vocational education and skills training: Enhancing livelihoods.
In Maharashtra, and partially in Gujarat, KEF’s key initiatives include strengthening school leadership, building teacher capacity, creating digital ecosystems in schools, enhancing middle school students’ confidence and English communication skills, and upskilling teachers in foundational literacy and numeracy. KEF also assists districts in establishing and running model schools.
Launched in 2021, the Kotak Kanya Scholarship provides financial and academic support to meritorious girl students across India for higher education. The Kotak Junior Scholarship supports high-performing students in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region pursuing 11th and 12th grades. Additionally, the Unnati project equips unemployed youth from economically weaker sections with basic IT skills, spoken English, life skills, and personality development, ensuring placements for eligible participants.
As KEF looks to the future, it is preparing to expand its impact, shifting its focus from individual schools to district and state-level education transformation. With a wealth of experience, KEF aims to drive systemic reforms that will create lasting change on a larger scale.
Kotak Education Foundation serves as the primary implementing agency for Kotak Mahindra Group’s CSR initiatives in education. The Kotak Karma brand represents the Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
