What is GATE Marks?

The GATE Marks obtained by you in the exam entirely depends on the number of questions in GATE Paper and the marks they carry. For instance, GATE Question Paper consists of 65 questions and these questions contribute to a total of 100 marks. So, GATE Marks is the marks candidates achieve out of 100 depending on the number and type of questions they answer correctly.

What is GATE Score?

GATE Score is another important element that students must know about. GATE Score is evaluated after the process of normalization. Calculation of GATE Score depends on the difficulty level of GATE Question Paper. Since different GATE Papers have different levels of complexity, the final GATE Score is calculated with the help of GATE Normalization Process. In this method, the GATE Score is calculated keeping 1000 marks as the total GATE Marks. Eventually, they use the GATE Normalization Formula in order to calculate the GATE Score for all the GATE Papers.

What is GATE Rank?

Now coming to the GATE Rank, it is one important element of GATE Results and is calculated based on the GATE Marks obtained by the candidates in the GATE Exam. After the marks of candidates are analysed, the qualifying candidates are assigned particular ranks respectively. According to the All India Rank of candidates, they are allowed to proceed with PG Admissions in different colleges/institutes.

How GATE Score is Calculated?

GATE Score is calculated using a formula. Candidates appearing in the exam must note that there are some GATE 2023 Papers such as Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering which are conducted in multiple sessions due to the large number of applications received. GATE Score for such papers is calculated by the normalization process so as to remove any parity in difficulty level of GATE Papers.

  • For NAT Questions – There is no negative marking to these questions.
  • For MCQ carrying 1 mark – 1/3rd marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • For MCQ carrying 2 marks – 2/3rd marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
