The IIT Mandi has released applications for its two-year MA in Development Studies, which is offered by its School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Students can also select a dual degree (MA + PhD). The Last date to apply is 11th April, 2025 (5:30 PM). The approximate fee for the course is ₹30,000/ semester.
This program focuses on the Himalayan region and aims to help students realize the challenges and opportunities therein. It states theory, research, then fieldwork to provide a practical learning experience. The 80-credit coursework focuses on issues of development, sustainability, and empowerment in the Himalayan regions.
Besides regular academics, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Mandi also strives for the empowerment of the local community around the campus, running training programmes for the self-sustainability of the local people.
Dr. Surya Prakash Upadhyay, Chairperson of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, explains that the uniqueness of this program lies in its distinctive focus on the Himalayan region. It will also involve practicums of development work in various features of the region, and the students will do academic research on them.
The IIT Mandi Admission Procedures and Eligibility
Students need to have a graduation degree with a minimum of 55 percent marks or a CGPA of 6.0 out of 10 to apply. However, SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwD candidates are provided with relaxation, and they need to have an aggregate of 50% marks (5.5 CGPA out of 10).
The admissions process consists of:
