CBSE confirms draft on conducting two board exam annually for Class 10 from 2026

The draft norms will now be placed in the public domain and the stakeholders can provide their comments by March 9 after which the policy will be finalized.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday gave the go-ahead to draft norms for holding Class-10 board exams twice a year from 2026, PTI said.

The officials interviewed in the report stated that the students will receive the same examination centre for both the exams. The first phase will take place in February and the second phase of the exams is suggested to be carried out in May.

The draft norms will now be placed in the public domain and the stakeholders may provide their inputs by March 9 after which the policy will be finalized.
According to the draft norms, the initial phase of the exams will be held between February 17 and March 6, and the second phase will be held between May 5 and 20.

"Both the exams will be held on full syllabus and the candidates will be given the same exam centres in the two editions. Fees for exams will be increased and charged for both exams at the time of filing applications," a senior board official said.
No supplementary exams?
The draft norms also suggested that both the editions of the CBSE Board exams will also be supplementary exams and the board will not hold any special examination for the same.
"The first and second editions of the board exams will also serve as supplementary exams, and no special exams will be held under any circumstances," the official mentioned in the PTI report stated on the matter.

The new National Education Policy (NEP) had suggested doing away with the "high stakes" element of the board exams. Under the policy, all students will be permitted to appear for the exams on up to two occasions in any school year.
