What is CAT 2024 Result Controversy? - Aditya Kumar Mallick, a CAT 2024 Exam taker has filed a petition in Delhi High Court against CAT 2024 Results 2024 over an error in the CAT question paper. In his petition, he accused IIM Calcutta of releasing the answer key in a hastily manner, without making corrections in the final answer key. IIM Calcutta released the CAT 2024 results on December 19, 2024 while, as per the official notice on CAT website, the expected result announcement date was to fall in the second week of January 2025.
The CAT 2024 exam was conducted on November 24, 2024. The provisional CAT 2024 answer key was released on December 3, 2024 and the objection window to raise objections remained open until December 5, 2024 11:55 PM.
A Bench comprising justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav took up the matter on December 24, 2024 when the court sought the responses of the Union Ministry of Education and the CAT Exam convener IIM Calcutta.
It was then briefly heard by a vacation bench comprising Justice Manmeet Preetam Singh Arora when the court noted that there have been no replies yet on record.
The next hearing of the case has been posted on January 3, 2025.
What is the Reason for the CAT 2024 Result Controversy Plea?
The CAT 2024 came under scrutiny when a question in the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) section from slot 2 received 272 objections after the release of the provisional answer key. The CAT provisional answer key was released on December 3, 2024. This sparked the controversy amongst the CAT Test takers and the MBA faculty members.
Despite the significant number of objections received for that particular question supported by attachments, IIM Calcutta released the final answer key of CAT exam mentioning there were no changes required in the answer key.
This is the reason for the ongoing controversy. Aditya Kumar Mallick filed a plea to challenge the results released by IIM Calcutta.
CAT 2024 Objection Details
After the CAT exam is concluded successfully, the examination conducting body releases the CAT Answer key to ensure transparency. Besides, it also opens the objection raising window for a specified duration. After considering all the objections raised by candidates, the authorities release a final answer key. This year for the CAT 2024 exam a total of 405 objections were raised by candidates across all the sections and shifts.
Will there be a Delay in IIM Admission Process?
The next hearing for the case will be held on January 3, 2025 and the outcome may or may not alter the IIM Admission Process. However, there is no official notification regarding such delays. The aspirants and institutions will have to wait for the court’s verdict. They must keep a close watch on the issue as it can influence future CAT exams and their evaluation procedures.
