Maharashtra to adopt CBSE-based curriculum under NEP 2020 in state schools; Check Details below

The new textbooks for Maharashtra State Board Class 1 students will be based on the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum, which is mainly utilised by schools connected to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), starting with the upcoming academic year that begins in June. This is part of a larger effort by the Maharashtra government to implement the CBSE model of education, which is based on the NCERT curriculum.

However, the decision has caused confusion among parents, teachers, and schools. Some have even questioned the decision, claiming that it compromises the Maharashtra State Board, a longstanding emblem of the state's educational identity. However, the administration is certain that the state's schools would become more high-quality thanks to the CBSE model and NCERT curriculum.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was introduced in India to reform the entire education system by a school education structure of 5+3+3+4 and this is what the CBSE Curriculum is based upon. From these basic education stages: Foundation, Preparation, middle, additional to secondary was proceeded with 'integrative learning' toward lengthen and stability early childhood's education. Rather than focusing on memorisation, the curriculum promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and analysis.

Apart from this, NEP provides more subject-matter freedom for the students to follow interests beyond their streams. NEP stresses learning multiple languages and employs continuous assessment to monitor students' progress. The goal of the new framework is to improve student performance in competitive exams and tertiary education while bringing Indian education up to pace with the rest of the world.

Maharashtra Board: Implementation Strategy

The Maharashtra government will give teacher training and new learning materials that follow the CBSE pattern to guarantee a smooth transition. A special focus will be on ensuring that educators are able to adapt to modern syllabus and deal with the new curriculum. In order to monitor the effectiveness of the changes and close any learning gaps, periodic evaluation will be conducted.
