Madhya Pradesh Board Grants Second Chance For Students Who Failed 10th and 12th Board Exams

In a student-friendly initiative, the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), Bhopal, has declared that for MP Class 10 and MPBSE 12th board exams will now be held twice a year. This move is intended to give students who fail or get supplementary results a second chance to pass in the same academic year.

Until now, students who missed exams due to illness, personal emergencies, or underperformed in one or two subjects had to wait an entire year to reappear. With this new system, such students can now take the board exams again in the same year—likely in July or August—removing the long wait and added pressure of supplementary exams.

As part of this reform, the existing provision for supplementary exams will be completely phased out. The government has already issued official orders, and according to district education authorities, this decision will benefit more than 10,000 students in Harda district alone.

“This decision will give students the opportunity to continue their studies. Many students miss exams due to illness or other reasons, or fail due to poor performance. The twice-a-year exam system will give children a chance to improve their education,” said DS Raghuvanshi, DEO, Harda.

Parents have also welcomed the decision, saying it will ease the burden on children and reduce the stigma of failing. Santosh Verma, a parent, stated, “The government has taken a major decision to allow examinations twice a year to provide relief to students who fail or perform poorly. Failing can be disheartening for students, but now they won’t have to be discouraged. The decision to eliminate supplementary exams is also good. The regret of passing only through supplementary exams will be eliminated.”

This progressive shift is a major break in the state's education policy to promote academic resilience among students.
