In a significant stride towards inter-disciplinary education, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has unveiled a new four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) program in Biomedical Science and Engineering. The Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology took the initiative to provide the students with a good foundation in biomedical sciences, engineering principles, and clinical applications.
Program Highlights
The curriculum is carefully designed to blend theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Students will study subjects like cellular processes, biomedical electronics, mathematical modeling, and research methodologies in-depth for their initial semesters. As they progress, the program offers specialized electives in areas such as medical diagnostics, health data analytics, regenerative medicine, and advanced biomaterials. Students will spend a good amount of time in advanced laboratories, engage in real-world projects, and even work alongside clinicians and engineers to solve practical medical challenges.
Who Can Apply?
Students who have completed their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and have cleared JEE Advanced, are eligible to apply. The JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) will conduct the counselling and will be responsible for the admission process
A Step Towards Health and Tech Innovation
Professor Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean of Public Relations at IIT Guwahati, emphasized that this course is designed to develop talent that can “drive innovation in medical technologies, diagnostics, and therapeutics”—a field in dire need of skilled professionals.
With this launch, IIT Guwahati isn’t just introducing a new academic program—it’s making a bold statement about the future of healthcare and technology in India.
