Recently, the JEE Main exam was held and concluded on 8th April 2025 across various exam centres. While the paper's difficulty level ranged between moderate to difficult as per the students, the JEE Main paper this year received criticism. It has been pointed out by the students and some well known instructors and educators like Kamath Pramod, that some of the questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in the paper were incorrect and contained factual errors.
After the JEE main answer key and the students' response sheets were released, students from Kota - country's national coaching capital, flagged at least 9 questions. Experts from the leading institutes have backed the students with these claims which has added fuel to the growing criticism against NTA's competence and transparency.
Out of the objections raised, four are from Physics, three are from Chemistry, and two from Mathematics. As stated by the experts from leading institutes these are not just minor ambiguities but major factual errors affecting the scores of the IIT aspirants. The outlet quoted the director of one coaching institute as saying that objections have been submitted with evidence, who also urged the NTA to either award bonus marks or drop the flawed questions
What are the Students and Parents Tweeting on X?
the JEE Main outrage has left students and parents worrying about their futures, and here is what they have to say about this blunder made by NTA.
- Educator and commentator @kamath_pramod posted on X, “It’s unacceptable that such basic mistakes are creeping into national-level exams.” He highlighted one modern physics question from the April 7 AM shift, calling it “conceptually flawed.” He added, “If NTA doesn’t correct this, it’s an injustice to lakhs of students.”
- Another user on X put it bluntly: “Tragedy of errors – JEE Main response sheet is different from what students actually filled in many cases + lot of answers wrongly given by NTA.”
Response Sheet Mess Adds To Students’ Worries
The issue goes beyond just the answer key. Several candidates and their parents reported major errors in the response sheets shared by NTA. Some students said their selected answers were wrongly recorded, while others found the sheets showing blank responses.
- Pramod Kamath, who is also a parent, posted on social media, “Indeed my daughter attempted 71 questions. During submission it showed 71 questions attempted & now in the response sheet it is showing all questions as unanswered! Shocking! NTA is playing with the future of children. No response on email!”
- Another student, who appeared for the April 3 shift 2 exam, said he had selected the first option for a physics question, but the response sheet now shows the second option.
- One parent, Rekha Verma, wrote on X, “My daughter has attempted 50 questions but it is showing 48. So many questions showing the wrong attempt. We will mail to NTA for this blunder. I am very worried for her.”
- A different user added, “Actually we are also experiencing similar issue on answer sheet shared by NTA. We request to the management to review and publish error free results.”
- A mother whose daughter regularly scored between 180-190 in practice tests said her child’s answer sheet now shows several incorrect options that were not marked by her.
'Blank' Answers And Unresponsive NTA
Some students even reported that the system simply didn’t record their answers at all. One X user shared, “Answers submitted were not considered and shows up as ‘blank’. An email to NTA went unanswered. Ridiculous that they conduct an exam for such premier institutes and are least bothered about the transparency. Who will guard the guards?”
In another post, someone said the same issue occurred with his sister’s paper - one question was missing her chosen answer entirely.
Opposition Leaders Join In, Question NTA’s Credibility
As reports of errors spread, political leaders also stepped in, questioning the NTA’s ability to conduct high-stakes exams.
Referring to the TOI report, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate posted in Hindi on X:
“The NTA is already facing questions over the conduct of competitive exams – last year's CUET-UG, NEET-UG answer sheets also had errors. Is the NTA capable of conducting these exams? Was the tension of unemployment and paper leaks not enough for our youth that now they have to deal with a weak NTA as well?”
What's Next For The Students?
The window to challenge the JEE Main 2025 Session 2 answer key has already closed, and the results are expected by April 17. But with so many discrepancies raised - from factual errors to technical glitches, students are demanding that the NTA drop the flawed questions or award bonus marks.
So far, there’s been no official response from the agency. With lakhs of students depending on this exam to secure a place in top engineering colleges, the silence is only fueling anxiety. All eyes are now on the NTA - will it admit to the issues and act, or leave students to bear the consequences?
