MAT Cutoff Percentiles for MBA/PGDM programs are determined individually by the MAT participating institutes. The institutes then use this cutoff to select the candidates for the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds which is the main selection criteria for MBA admissions. The MAT cutoffs are released by the participating institutes for each academic session at the time of admissions. The cutoffs typically remain the same for all sessions and range between 65-95 percentile. Candidates can use any MAT score to seek admission for the management programs if they meet the cutoff requirements.

Important: MAT 2024 Exam Dates

The MAT 2024 cutoff will be determined by several factors like the number of seats available, total test takers, and the previous year's cutoff. While most colleges prefer considering the overall MAT score and percentile, some colleges use the composite MAT score and the sectional percentile for MAT. The MAT Exam composite score is calculated based on the candidate's performance in 4 sections - Mathematical Skills, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, and Data Analysis & Interpretation. The cutoff is then arrived at by calculating the composite score on a scale of 199 - 801.

MAT Cutoff Determining Factors

The MAT cutoff is same for all the three modes - CBT, IBT, and PBT. Usually, the top MBA colleges accept a MAT percentile and score of 95 and above. However, there are certain factors that determine the MAT Cutoff. These factors are listed below.

  • The total number of candidates who appeared for the MAT exam are a major factor to determine the cutoffs for the current academic year.
  • The total number of students who cleared the MAT exam are another important criteria.
  • The difficulty level of the exam is also a great contributor for determining the cutoff for MAT. Higher the difficulty level, lower will be the cutoff, and vice-versa.
  • The total seats available in a particular institute is another factor. Lower number of seats would mean a higher cutoff and only the exceptional students will be given admission, and higher number of seats indicates a lower cutoff to accommodate students and fill as many vacant seats as possible.
  • The reservation criteria is another factor to determine the cutoff. If the number of reserved seats are higher, the general category seats will automatically be reduced which would ultimately affect the cutoff.

What After MAT Cutoff 2024?

Every college accepting the MAT score has its own individual selection process. While some admit students based purely on the score, some conduct their own selection procedure to filter out only the best candidates from the crowd. The selection process is divided into three stages.

  • Group Discussion (GD)
  • Personal Interview (PI)
  • Written Ability Test (WAT)

A higher weightage is often given to the candidate's performance in the Written Ability Test (WAT). The reason here is that it is easy to judge a candidate by their writing than the GD/PI. A soft spoken candidate may lose his seat because he could not perform well in the GD round but may actually be a worthy fit. So the students and applicants are advised to prepare well for the selection rounds.

Post the selection rounds, the students need to appear for the MAT Counselling and should ensure to carry the following documents.

  • MAT Admit card with Xerox copy
  • Original certificates of 10th, 12th with Xerox Copy
  • Medical documents
  • MAT Rank Card
  • All original certificates in concern to preceding qualification
  • Caste certificates for the reserved category
  • At least new six passport size black and white and colour photographs
