JEE Main Counselling will be conducted by following:

  • JoSAA (Joint seat allocation authority) would conduct counseling session for IITs, ISMs, NITs, and other government-funded institutes.
  • CSAB( Central Seat Allocation Board) conducts separate counseling for SFTIs and NEUT.

With about 92 institutes participating in the counseling process, it is expected to begin in June. All the state counseling authorities would have their own sessions for B.E/B.tech/B.Arch admission based on JEE Main ranks.

To be a part of JoSAA, the following is the criteria:

For IITs and ISM Dhanbad

Qualify JEE Advanced criteria for academic courses in the IITs and ISMs and perform in the qualifying exam

Qualify JEE Advanced criteria for preparatory courses in the IITs and ISMs and perform in the qualifying exam

For NITs, IIITs and GFTIs

Qualify rank in JEE Main (Paper 1) and Class 12

Qualify Rank in JEE Main Paper 2 and pass in Grade 12 with Mathematics as one of the subjects

Through JoSAA, seats would be allotted to different institutes as per the seat matrix:

The selection process is usually done in a 2 stage process by CBSE. JEE Main performance (60%) and Class-12 (40%) would be taken into account. Both of the scores would be converted into a percentile. 

JEE Main Counseling will be conducted from June 2024.

JEE Main is a national level examination regulated by the National Testing Agency. The JEE Main examination is primarily organized for determining admission of students into engineering and architectural courses. The JEE Main counseling procedure is regulated by JoSAA.

The JEE Main Centralized counseling would be conducted in an online mode. The registration for the JEE Main Counseling procedure would be beginning from the third week of June. Candidates qualifying JEE Main alone would be able to attend the counseling procedure for seat allocation in the colleges and institutes that participate in the same.

JoSAA would be organizing counseling for ensuring admission to 97 participating institutes that would be inclusive of IITs, ISM, NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs. JoSAA counseling would start once the JEE Main and JEE Advanced results are announced. The counseling would be organized in a total of 7 rounds and all the related activities would be managed by JoSAA.

About 7 rounds of JEE Main Counselling would be conducted. The JEE Main Counseling procedure comprises the following steps:

A)      Online Registration

  1. Visit the official website.
  2. Enter the JEE Main Roll number and password.
  3. The Login button can be clicked.
  4. Once the instructions are read, I Agree button would be needed to be clicked.
  5. Registration Form for JoSAA would open.
  6. All the details would be filled.
  7. Registration would be confirmed.

B)      Online choice selection

  1. Candidates would have to select a Choice Available option.
  2. The Institute type, name, and Academic Program would be input.
  3. The Choice filling option can be selected.
  4. Make a choice of Colleges and Courses.
  5. The filled choices can be arranged in the decreasing order of preference.
  6. Option for Choice Rearrange can be selected.
  7. College according to preferences can be arranged.
  8. Once that is done, the save button can be clicked.
  9. If the candidate would want to make a deletion of the choices they fill, Multiple delete option should be selected.
  10. Once choices are locked, they cannot change.
  11. Choices should be made carefully, as once done they would not change.
  12. Choice locking would be made after every round of counseling.
  13. Candidates would be able to mark upgraded choices in successive rounds for choice filling and locking.

C)      Allotment of Seats

  1. Allotment of seats would be on the basis of the reservation norms, choices filled and the vacancies.
  2. Candidates would be getting an Email/SMS regarding the seat allotment after a few days once the choice lock is made.
  3. The seat allotment letter can be downloaded.

D)      Payment of Fees and Acceptance

  1. The Acceptance Fees have to be paid in order to confirm the allotment of the seats.
  2. Candidates would have to deposit fees via Net Banking/e challan.
  3. The documents can be verified at any reporting center for seat acceptance provisionally.
  4. A provisional letter would be issued once the process is completed.

E)      Reporting to allocated institutions

  1. Candidates would have to report to the Allocated institutions once the fee acceptance is done.
  2. Candidates would be required to report at the allotted college along with original certificates and documents.
  3. Candidates those who have a seat allotted in NIT, IIIT, IIEST and GFTI colleges would have to report only at the reporting center of various institutions.

Other than the above, counseling process details are given as below:

  • Freeze: Candidates who accept the allotted seat and do not want to participate in other counseling rounds.
  • Float: Candidates accepting the allotted seat and wanting to get admission in a better college would be selecting this option to participate in further counseling.
  • Slide: Option for candidates who accept the allotted seat and looking for better seats in the allotted institution.
  • In any case, if candidates want to make changes across float, free and slide, they would have to report at the allotted center.
  • No changes would be allowed in the last round of seat allocation.
  • Slide and Float option would be given to candidates, who are not offered admission to their initial preferences.

Seat Withdrawal:

  1. Candidates wishing to withdraw seats have to report at their reporting center prior to the sixth round of seat allocation.
  2. Candidates would not be considered for further rounds of counseling after the withdraw option is given.
  3. After Seat withdraw, the seat acceptance fee shall be refunded to candidates once INR 1000 is deducted as processing the charge.
  4. For seat withdraw process, candidates would have to fill their bank correspondence details and upload an image of the canceled cheque in the JPEG Format. Withdrawal Request letter can be downloaded.
  5. Candidates would have to input their signature and the signature of the parent in the withdrawal request center and report to the concerned reporting center.
