About CBSE Class 12

Every year, CBSE organizes Class 12 exams in offline mode for the students studying in Class 12. Candidates who have passed their Class 11 exams from any recognized educational board and completed a full year of study in Class 12 are eligible to appear in the CBSE class 12 board exams. Students must pay the examination fees to enroll in these CBSE examinations.

Also, CBSE stated that students who failed to appear for examinations of both Term 1 and Term 2 will not be permitted to sit for the compartmental examinations since Class 12 compartment exams are held on one single day, and will have to repeat Class 12. For Class 10, compartment exams are organized over a period of 7 days.

  • For the 2021-2022 session, CBSE conducted class 12 board exams in two semesters. The action was taken to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances brought on by the Covid-19 epidemic.
  • In 2020 and 2021, CBSE was not able to fully conduct the board exams due to the pandemic. Thus, results were calculated based on internal assessments.
  • CBSE Class 12 term 1 exams for all the subjects were administered between November 16 and December 30, 2021, in MCQ format in offline mode.
  • CBSE Class 12 term 2 exams were conducted from April 26 to June 15, 2022, in a subjective manner in offline mode.
  • Last year, as CBSE canceled the pen and paper Class 12 exams due to rising cases of COVID-19, the results were declared on July 30 based on the ‘objective criterion'.

CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2021-2022

CBSE Class 12 Board Exams were conducted between 26th April to 15th June 2022. The CBSE board proposed a different Exam Pattern due to the COVID-19 impact. As per the new exam pattern, the syllabus is bifurcated into two parts that are 50% of Term 1 and 50% of Term 2. The duration of the CBSE 12th Board Exam was 3 hours. The percentage of MCQs was around 30% and the number of application-based questions was even less.

Under the current scenario when COVID cases are subsiding, there is speculation to move back to the pre-covid exam pattern with one final exam, instead of two. CBSE might implement the previous exam pattern for the upcoming session.

Few points about the CBSE 12th Exam Pattern:

  • The CBSE Class 12 question paper consists of very short answer questions (1 mark each), short answer type questions I and II (2 marks each), value-based questions (4 marks each), and long answer type questions (5 marks each).
  • Class 12 consists of five courses in total with English Theory serving as the one compulsory language paper.
  • Theory Area: It comprises the final board exams that take up the whole Class 12th curriculum. A 9-point grading scale is used to issue marks and grades.
  • Co-scholastic Area: The concerned teacher will create an objective assessment based on a student's level of participation and performance during the academic year and issue grades accordingly.
