NIT Calicut Highlights 2025
The National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT Calicut), established in 1961, is one of India's premier technical institutions and holds the status of an "Institute of National Importance." Ranked 3rd in Architecture, 25th in Engineering, and 76th in Management by NIRF 2024, it is also recognized internationally, securing the 187th position in Southern Asia University Rankings and 621-640 in the Asia University category by QS World University Rankings 2025.
NIT Calicut offers programs in BTech, BArch, MTech, MBA, MPlan, MS, and PhD, across 15 departments. Admissions are based on national-level entrance exams like JEE Main, GATE, and CAT. BTech is the most competitive program with excellent placement records in 2024. It has received a Highest Package of Rs. 50.64 LPA and an Average Package of Rs. 12.11 LPA.
The campus spans 120 hectares, providing a vibrant residential environment with 13 hostels (10 for boys, 3 for girls) and outsourced mess facilities. Originally founded as Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC), the institute was renamed NIT Calicut in 2002 when it gained autonomy. Over the years, it has expanded its academic offerings, now including 10 undergraduate and 30 postgraduate programs in engineering, along with management and research degrees.
