The BTech program of IIT Kharagpur/IIT Kolkata has around 15 specializations along with the capacity of almost 784 students. All those candidates who have completed class 12 in the science stream and have passed the JEE Main and Advanced examinations are eligible for admission to the course. In the JEE Advanced test, the cutoff range for the BTech program is 200-5000 marks.
IIT Kharagpur BTech Eligibility and Selection Criteria
The eligibility criteria for the IIT Kharagpur/IIT Kolkata BTech Program are given below. The candidates who can fulfill the set criteria will by default become eligible for the college’s selection process.
- Candidates need to have completed 10+2 with all the necessary minimum marks.
- Candidates need to qualify for JEE Main which is followed by JEE Advanced
- A merit list as per the college will be created and will be based on the outcomes of the 12th test, JEE Main, as well as JEE Advanced/ AAT score. It will include all the candidates’ ranks called All India Rank (AIR).

IIT Kharagpur Admissions Process 2024
IIT Kharagpur has created an admission process for all the levels of courses offered by IIT Kharagpur. It has its own admissions, entrance exams, as well as selection process. IIT Kharagpur Admissions processes all the BTech, and BArch, as well as the integrated BTech-MTech programs are said to be made via the JEE (Advanced) entrance exam.
After completing all the qualifying exams, all the students need to get registered via the Joint Seat Allocation Authority portal. You also need to choose their preferred IIT as well as specialization. - Admission to the LLM program is done through an online application on the IIT Kharagpur website, followed by a qualifying institute written test.

- Participate in the CAT qualifying entrance exam.
- Fill out the application form and pay the application fees online at IIT Kharagpur’s Vinod Gupta School of Management website.
- Attend the WAT PI shortlisting process.
- The final decision is based on the applicant’s CAT/ GMAT score, academic background, and performance in the WAT-PI process.

IIT Kharagpur MBA admissions are managed by IIT Kharagpur's Vinod Gupta School of Management. The cutoff for MBA admissions 2024 will be based on CAT 2024 scores. The minimum CAT percentile for MBA admissions was 90, while for PGDM admissions, 85 was required.

Further, Phase 2 of the placement is scheduled for the First week of January 2025 till the end of April 2025. IIT-KGP has already received over 1000 offers, including 20 International offers, in the first 3 days of the Phase 1 placements.

As the campus of IIT Kharagpur is spread over a huge area of 2100 acres, the facilities available here are immense. The campus is a mini self-sufficient ecosystem with education, accommodation, recreation, food, groceries, and utilities all available within. All the faculty members and staff reside on campus in accommodations provided by IIT Kharagpur. Accommodation for visitors and guests is also available.
There are 4 schools within the campus so that children of the staff and faculty members do not have to travel long distances. There is a daycare center, so that spouses of staff and faculty members have the option of pursuing professional interests outside the IIT Kharagpur if they wish to. There are separate dormitories for boys and girls. All hostels have high-speed Wi-Fi and LAN access. Every hostel has a kitchen and a cafeteria.

Placement: A good number of students are placed through our CDC with decent packages. Department wise, CSE gets the best placement offers, but ECE, Industrial Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, Instrumentation Engineering is also good.
Faculty: Mathematics teacher Bibhas Sir. Along with stating the theorems, proofs and formulas, he also gives their practical applications. This makes maths very enjoyable.
