Indian Institute of Information Technology , Guwahati Highlights 2024
The foundation stone for its permanent campus was laid on 19 January, 2016 by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi in the august presence of former Governor of Assam Shri Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, former Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi and former Minister of Human Resources & Development, Smt Smriti Zubin Irani. The institute moved to its permanent campus in July, 2018. Prof. Gautam Barua former Director of IIT Guwahati is the Director of the Institute.

The admission process for the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati) is primarily based on entrance exams.

Application
Eligible candidates must fill out the online application form and pay the application fee. The application form should be filled in the provided Word File template and converted to PDF before uploading.
Entrance exam
Candidates must have a valid score in the JEE Main for the BTech course, or a valid GATE/NET scorecard for the MTech or PhD course.
Merit list
The institute prepares merit lists based on the entrance exam scores to shortlist candidates for admission.
Counseling
Candidates must participate in the counseling process, which may include JoSAA for BTech and a personal interview for MTech.
Final admission
Shortlisted candidates must pay the course-wise fees to finalize their seats.
Note:
Shortlisted candidates will be called for an online interview by email. The call letter will include details about the interview, and may also mention a written test.
If the original certificates are not in English or Hindi, an English or Hindi translation certified by the graduating institute's Principal/Director or other competent authority will be required.
Hostel fees are charged on a pro-rata basis, based on when the student joins the hostel.

B.Tech. in CSE
The program is designed to create innovators and researchers. Students are given a strong foundation in CSE that includes electronics and hardware. The B.Tech (CSE) program at IIIT-Guwahati starts with computing-oriented courses first, and allows the possibility of doing science courses later. Besides being better suited for an IT program, it also enables the possibility of students seeing newer applications and possibilities of relating IT with these subjects.
B.Tech. in ECE
The program is designed to create innovators and researchers. ECE courses like electronics, signals & systems, communications, VLSI, and embedded systems are introduced in the early semesters. Students also take some CSE-oriented courses: Programming, Data Structures, Operating Systems, and Networks. The main objectives of the B.Tech (ECE) program are to produce students who are well prepared for Indian industry with the necessary core competency to succeed long-term in engineering/entrepreneurship careers (post B.Tech), and who are well prepared to undertake PG studies and research careers.
The academic year has been divided into two semesters namely the MONSOON semester from July-Dec and the WINTER semester from Jan-May.
The winter vacation period for students is generally in the month of December and the summer vacation period is from the beginning of May to the third week of July.

Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the following areas of research:

Full-time
Partial funding will be from a two-year project titled “Scalable, Indigenous, and driver-friendly ride-hailing application”. The project is for Android app development. The PhD research area will be decided by the student and the supervisor together.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicant must fulfill both of the following criteria:
Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant area (CS/IT) with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
OR
Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (CS/IT) or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 or 65% of marks.
RESERVATIONS
(SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer), and PD categories): Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants. Reservation is as per GOI rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose a certificate and self-declaration statement as perthe format in Annexure-I & Annexure-II. The OBC (NCL) Certificate, issued by the Competent Authority, on or after 01-04-2023, shall only be acceptable.
FELLOWSHIP
Rs. 31,000 per month for the first 2(two) years. After the project ends, the student will receive an Institute fellowship.
THE SCHEDULE AND THE PROGRAMME
Admissions will be held based on applications received. The last date of receiving the application is extended till 31st March 2024 (Sunday).
Shortlisting will be done based on the availability of seats and the academic performance of the candidates. A candidate merely fulfilling the eligibility criteria may not be shortlisted.

Mode of interview: Online.
There is no application fee.
Course Requirements, if any, will be prescribed by individual Departments. However, students will be encouraged to take courses. The Doctoral Committee of a student will evaluate the preparedness of a student and prescribe one or more courses that will have to be taken.
There will be a written comprehensive examination after admission to determine if the student is ready to take up research work and to determine if the student has sufficient breadth of knowledge in the discipline to which he/she has been admitted.
