The establishment of DIT University, previously known as Dehradun Institute of Technology, took place in the academic year of 2013 with the help of Government of Uttarakhand and it has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The institute was founded by Unison Group. It is a private university. The university, previously, offered engineering programs but it was gradually changed to a university that offers various programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The DIT was declared as DIT University by the Uttarakhand State Government due to its excellence in Education and Research.

The infrastructure of the university is one of the major aspects one should consider while taking admission. The campus of the institute is spread over an area of 25 acres out of which 23 acres of the area is being used by the authorities. There are two prominent buildings namely Vedanta and Chanakya. Despite being located on the foothills of Mussoorie, the university manages to provide all the basic facilities and amenities to the students. The campus has well-furnished classrooms with good quality of projectors and speakers installed, Boys' and Girls' hostel facilities for the students coming from out of the city, an infirmary is available all the time, laundry, gymnasium, Library, and Sports facilities.

The food offered by the cafeteria and mess is quite good and hygienic while keeping the rates reasonable. The food authority tends to offers pocket-friendly and healthy food.

DIT University Courses include various programs offered at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Besides, it also offers PhD program at the Doctorate level. These programs are offered under the fields of Engineering, Management, Pharmacy and Architecture. B. Tech, B. Arch, BA, B. Sc, BCA and B. Pharm are the programs offered at undergraduate level, while MBA, M. Tech, M. Sc, MCA, and M. Pharm are the programs offered at the postgraduate level. • For admission to B. Arch and B. Tech, the candidates are required to hold a valid score in JEE Main.
• Admission to the other undergraduate programs is purely based upon the merit list.
• Apart from JEE Main, candidates with a valid score in NATA are also eligible to apply for B. Arch.
• Admission to postgraduate program takes place based on the score obtained by the candidates in CAT/XAT/MAT/CMAT or GATE examination.
