The Xavier Aptitude Test, having the acronymic XAT, is a national level Business Management Entrance Examination conducted by the Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur. The XAT score is relevant as it is used by approximately 150 Institutes offering Management courses and is considered the second important test after CAT.
Previously, the XAT exam was conducted offline, that is, on paper, but in 2018 it was conducted in the online mode and will continue in the same way for the coming years.
XAT is useful in testing students' advanced level aptitude relevant in the management fields. The 5 main sections of the exam are:
- Verbal and Logical Ability
- Decision Making
- Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
- General Knowledge
- Essay Writing
The XAT 2019 will be conducted on January 6, 2019. The duration of the exam is 3 and a half hours.
Important Points to Note:
- The total numbers of questions are 98, out of which 97 are Multiple Choice Questions, with 1 essay question.
- Mode of exam is Online.
- The question paper will come divided into 2 parts, where the first part consists Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation sections respectively. On the other hand, the General Knowledge and Essay Writing sections are sections in the second part.
- The first 4 sections constitute MCQs with 5 responses for each question
- +1 is assigned for every correct tick and -0.25 for every incorrect answer.
- If a candidate plans to leave more than 12 questions unanswered, then a penalty of 0.05 marks will be imposed on them.
- One random topic for essay writing will be given, where good writing skills along with quality work is expected from the candidates.
- A 5-minutes break is allotted before the commencement of Section-II.
- No offline registration facility.
- There is an advantage of applying for admissions to any of the PGDM programmes in XLRI while filling the XAT Application form. The fee payment is done simultaneously for the two. There is a separate section which asks for the same.
- Students can select the city of their preference for giving the exam.

XAT Eligibility Criteria:
- The Candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from any recognized University or Institute. Even if a candidate scores only passing marks, he/ she can also apply for XAT, as there is no marks limit.
- The students in their final year of graduation who will complete their degree course in June 2019, can also apply for the exam. However, they will be given admission provisionally, if selected.
- There is no age limit to sit for XAT exam.
XAT Eligibility Criterion for Foreign Candidates:
- The Foreign candidates have the advantage of applying to the business schools with their GMAT scores, as XAT is not mandatory for the foreign students, unlike students of India.

XAT 2019 Registration Procedure:
- Log-on to the official website, i.e., http://www.xatonline.in/
- Select on “Click here for New Registration” and enter Name, Contact Details, and a valid email id.
- A provisional XAT ID and Password will be sent to the candidate via email, and it will also flash on the screen.
- The candidate shall then proceed to fill the application form with all the relevant information as per the form, and shall use “Save and Next” button to continue filling.
- Press the “Final Submit” button after rechecking your form thoroughly, as no changes will be allowed after the completion of the registration process.
- Once done with the application form proceedings, the candidate shall make the payment by clicking on “Payment” tab.
Documents required to Upload:
- A digitally scanned recent colored passport sized photograph in JPG or JPEG format.
- The photograph should not be taken against a bright background.
- Religious headgear is allowed but should not cover the face of the candidates.
- The size of the file should be between 20kb and 50 kb.
- A digitally scanned signature image in JPG or JPEG format.
- The signature should be taken on a white sheet of paper with a black-ink pen.
- The size of the file should be between 10kb and 20 kb.
The images uploaded should not be a blur and in accordance with the size(s) mentioned in the application form. In case of unclear image uploads, the application might get rejected.
Image Scanning Details:
- The scanner resolution should be set to a minimum of 200 dpi (dots per inch).
- The image color has to be set to “true color”.
- The image shall be cropped to the edge of the photograph/signature.
- Use the ‘upload editor' to crop the images in accordance with the size(s) mentioned.
Fee Payment Modes:
- Online Modes- Debit Cards (RuPay / Visa / Master Card / Maestro), Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets.
- Cash Payment- The candidates are required to download the Challan Form and make the payment by visiting the nearest IDBI Bank.
- Demand Draft- The candidates have to submit the DD in favor of “XLRI JAMSHEDPUR” payable at JAMSHEDPUR. Once the DD has been submitted, the candidate should login on the XAT website and fill the details of the DD and save the same.
