WBCS stands for West Bengal Public Service Commission, it is a reputed state-level examination regulated to select candidates for different administrative positions in the state government.

The British era was the starting period from where the West Bengal Civil Services began. The British East India Company established an administrative structure where the Bengal’s civil services got their start. The WBSC was established on 1 April 1973 as the Bengal Public Service Commission. The WBSC was originated in its present shape as a result of the changes made by the composition and nature of Bengali’s civil services over time.
The WBCS selection process is a multi-step examination created to identify and enlist applicants with the right aptitude and skills for administrative roles in West Bengal. The key stages of the selection process include:
The preliminary examination consists of objective-type questions and serves as a screening test. Applicants must pass this stage to process to the next one.
The main examination is a written examination comprising multiple papers. It evaluates candidates in different subjects, including optional subjects selected by the candidates.
Applicants who clear the main examination are called for a personal interview and test. This stage calculates the applicant’s overall personality, communication abilities, and suitability for administrative roles.
The WBCS is conducted in three stages such as Prelims, Mains and Personality Test. The candidates who clear the prelims exam will be selected for the main exams. After clearing the main exam the candidates will be called for an interview.
