Scholarships have long been instrumental in shaping the educational journey of deserving students, especially those facing financial constraints. In the rich tapestry of India's educational narrative, West Bengal has emerged as a beacon of support for such students. One such initiative, the SVMCM Scholarship, also known as the Swami Vivekananda Scholarship, stands as a testament to the state's commitment to nurturing talent irrespective of economic background. The SVMCM Scholarship Scheme, spearheaded by the Government of West Bengal, aims to provide financial assistance to meritorious students pursuing higher education. Over the years, this program has undergone significant enhancements, particularly in 2016, to widen its reach and augment the scholarship amounts, ensuring more students benefit from its provisions.

Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship Eligibility

As many of you may be aware, the government of West Bengal has introduced the Swami Vivekananda scholarship program with the aim of assisting students in need. This initiative extends financial support to deserving individuals from economically challenged families across the state. Eligibility for this scheme was previously limited to students who had scored above 75% in their state board examinations. However, in a recent development, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to revise these criteria.

  • Now, students who have achieved a minimum of 60% marks are also eligible to apply for this scheme. To mark this occasion, the Chief Minister virtually honored approximately 1700 students who excelled in secondary, higher secondary, and Madarsa examinations, presenting them with laptops as a token of recognition.
  • In addition to this, students benefit from receiving books authored by esteemed writers from Bengal. It's worth noting that there's an upper limit on the family income for eligibility under this scheme, set at Rs 250,000 per annum.
