SAT Score Range

The overall SAT score is the sum of two sections, SAT Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. There is no definitive SAT highest or lowest score. The Subscores section includes multiple points for the Reading, Writing and Language, and Math sections. The subscore scale runs from 1 to 15. Candidates who choose the SAT essay receive SAT Essay Reading (2-8 points), SAT Essay Writing (2-8 points), and SAT Essay Analysis (2-8 points) scores.

The Total Score: As the name implies, the Total Score is the sum of the two Section Scores, with a range of 400 to 1600.

Sectional Score: The sectional score ranges from 200 to 800 and is based on the candidate's performance on the Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections.

How to check the SAT score?

The SAT score report is available to candidates through their College Board profile. Here are the following steps to check your SAT Score:

  • Go to the College Board's website.
  • Log in with your ID and password.
  • Go to My Organiser and then to SAT Scores.
  • Enter your username and password in the Access My Scores box.
  • Go to My Test Scores.
  • Your SAT scores will be displayed on the screen.
  • Candidates can use Score Choice to send their score reports to colleges.
  • SAT Score Sending to Colleges
  • SAT scores can be sent in three ways:
  • You can access your SAT scores online by visiting the Collegeboard SAT scores section.
  • Fill out the 'Additional Score Report Order Form' and mail it.

Call Customer Service at 866-756-7346 (toll-free) or 212-713-7789 (international) for assistance.

Additional information about sending SAT scores:

  • Candidates can only send four free score reports or SAT results 2022 to the colleges or universities they choose when registering for the SAT. Candidates can send their SAT scores up to 9 days after taking the exam, but there is a fee.
  • SAT scores are available approximately 4-5 weeks after the test.
  • Candidates who took the test on multiple dates have the option of selecting which scores they want to send to colleges. Though some colleges may require all SAT scores.
  • The SAT overall score is known as the SAT Superscore. Sending a Superscore to a College refers to sending your highest SAT score from all of your SAT exams to the college that will accept the highest SAT score from all of your SAT exams.
  • A high SAT Total Score can help students qualify for an SAT scholarship.

Verifying Your Scores

  • SAT Score verification is simply a revaluation of your test scores to ensure that you received scores in all sections and that nothing was skipped. So, if you believe your SAT score is different from what you expected, you may have missed or made a mistake in marking your answers. Another reason for lower than expected SAT scores is that your Essay is illegible or blank when viewed online. There are three options for SAT score verification:
  • Hand score verification using multiple-choice questions
  • Verification of essay grade
  • Alternatively, both multiple-choice and essay scores may be used.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to cancel SAT scores?

At the testing location: Take the "cancel test scores form" from the test coordinator after finishing the test, fill it out, and sign it. Return the form to the test coordinator at the test center.

How should I improve my SAT score?

Students studying for the SAT are frequently uncertain about how much preparation is necessary and when to begin. There are no clear-cut solutions because every student’s preparation strategy is unique. Perform more practice tests while working on your weak areas.

What is a good overall SAT score?

Any SAT score above the median, or 50th percentile, can typically be regarded as respectable because it indicates that you outperformed the majority of test-takers. However, the majority of selective colleges will not accept scores below the 50th percentile. Depending on how competitive the applicant pool is, the bar for a good SAT score rises significantly. To achieve at least the 75th percentile, or 1200 or higher, is generally preferable.

What is a good SAT score based on your schools?

Aim for an SAT score that is close to the average enrolled applicant’s score to increase your chances of being accepted to a specific college. To put it another way, if the typical first-year student received a 1300, you should aim for at least 1300 as well.

How and where do I find out my SAT score?

You must create an account with College Board in order to register for the SAT. You must log into your account to view your scores once they are released.
