Saksham Scholarship:

 

Saksham is a MHRD Scheme under implementation by AICTE for providing encouragement and enabling specially abled children for pursuing technical education.
It is an effort to provide each specially abled young student, otherwise young, the opportunity to study further and prepare for a bright future. The Last Date to Apply is  5 January 2024. 

Saksham is the Scholarship Scheme of the Ministry of Education by AICTE to encourage and enable specially-abled children to pursue a career in technical education. An attempt to equip every young student who otherwise happens to be specially abled to study further and prepare for a bright future through technical education/ knowledge. ₹50,000/- per year for all the years of study ie maximum 4 years in the case of students admitted for the first time, and maximum 3 years in the case of students admitted for lateral entry as one-time towards college fee, computer, stationery, books, equipment, software, etc. He must have got admission in the First year of the Degree level course OR the Second year of the Degree level course through lateral entry in any of the AICTE-approved institutions of the respective year. The family income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 8 lakh per annum during the current financial year.

Bennefits of Saksham Scholarship

The major benefits of the scholarship are bulleted below: 

  • Beneficiaries will get INR 50,000/- per annum for each academic year i.e. maximum 4 years in case of first-year admitted and maximum 3 years in case of lateral entry students as a single lump sum towards payment of college fee, computer, stationeries, books, equipment, software, etc. 
  • Scholarship amount will be paid to the selected student through DBT mode every year. 
  • Scholarship will be renewed for next year of study with receipt of renewal through National Scholarship Portal with passing certificate/mark sheet along with letter from Head of the Institution on online portal.

Who is Eligible for Saksham Scholarship?

Candidate should be admitted to the First year of the Degree level course OR the Second year of the Degree level course through lateral entry in any of the AICTE-approved institutions of the respective year. Particularly-abled candidates with disability of 40% or above. Total family income from all sources not exceeding Rs. 8 lakh per annum during the current financial year. An income certificate issued by the State/UT government needs to be enclosed and can be accepted.

Salient Features of the Saksham Scholarship Scheme

The salient features are numbered below: 

  1. Total Scholarship awarded 1000 per annum (500 for Degree and 500 for Diploma)
  2. The Scholarships for Degree and Diploma are transferable in event of nonavailability of eligible applicant in any of the Degree/Diploma level Programme.
  3. Candidate should be admitted to 1st year of Degree/Diploma course in any of the AICTE approved Institution of respective year through Centralized Admission process of the State/Central Government.
  4. Specially Abled Student with disability of not less than 40% and family income not more than 8 lakh per annum during the preceding financial year (in case of married girl, the income of parents/in-laws, whichever is higher will be considered).
  5. The selection of candidate will be made on merit on the basis of qualifying examination to peruse the respective Technical Degree /Diploma course from any of the AICTE approved institution.
  6. Scholarship amount: Tuition Fee of Rs. 30,000 /- or at actual, whichever is less and Rs2000/- per month for 10 months as incidentals charges each year. 
  7. In case of Tuition fee waiver/reimbursement, Students are eligible to get an amount of Rs. 30,000/- for the purchase of Books/Equipment/Softwares/
    Laptop/Desktop/Vehicle/Fee paid towards competitive examination applications forms/exam/ specific equipments/ software's for visually impaired/ speech and
    hearing disabled.
  8. Reservation-15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 27% for OBC candidate/applicant.

Documents Needed to Avail Saksham Scholarship

The following documents are necessary to avail the scholarship benefits: 

  1. Mark Sheet of standard Xth /XIIth / others as applicable.
  2. Annual family Income Certificate for the preceding financial year in the prescribed format issued by not below the rank of Tahsildar.
  3. Disability certificate issued by Competent Authority
  4. Admission letter issued by Directorate of Technical Education for the admission in Diploma/Degree course.
  5. Certificate issued by the Director/Principal/ Head of the Institute.
  6. Tuition fee receipt.
  7. AADHAR seeded Bank Pass Book in the name of the student indicating Account number, IFSC code and Photograph
    Caste Certificate for SC/ST/OBC category.
  8. AADHAR card.
  9. Declaration by parents duly signed stating that the information provided by their child is correct and will refund Scholarship amount, if found false at any stage. 

How Can You Apply? 

The application process for Saksham Scholarship is online. The detailed process is elaborated below: 

Step 1: Soft copies of all documents required.
Go to http://www.scholarships.gov.in/. Click "New Registration".
Guidelines for Registration will open. Scroll at the bottom. 
Carefully read the undertaking. Check the Terms. Click "Proceed".

Step 2: A Registration Form will now open. (The fields marked with an asterisk sign * are compulsory)
Fill in the details and click "Register".
Your Application ID and password will appear. 
This will also be sent as an SMS on your registered mobile number.

Step 3: Go to https://scholarships.gov.in/fresh/newstdRegfrmInstruction
Click on "Login to Apply". Enter your Application ID and password.
Enter the Captcha and click "Login".
On the next page, enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number. you will be taken to the Password Reset page
Create a new password and confirm.
Click "Submit". You are re-directed to the "Applicant's Dashboard".

Step 4:  Click Application Form on the left pane. 

The fields marked with * are mandatory. Fill the details and upload the documents.

Click Save as Draft to complete

Who are Excluded from the Saksham Scholarship?

The following are excluded from the scholarship: 

  • No scholarship would be awarded to a student who fails to qualify for promotion to the next class/level. 
  • The gap period between the year of passing the qualifying examination and the session of admission in the degree course should not be more than two years. 
  • A candidate failing/drops out in a subsequent year, she/he will not be eligible for further scholarship. 
  • The scholarship shall be awarded strictly on the basis that the student shall not receive any other scholarship/emoluments, salary, stipend, etc. from any source during her/his course of study in the Institute. 
  • If any other financial assistance is received, the scholarship shall be stopped and the entire amount of scholarship shall have to be refunded to AICTE by D/Draft drawn in favor of "Member Secretary, AICTE" Payable at New Delhi.

No, students who are already being benefitted from the scholarship like merit scholarships Of Centre / State Government are not eligible to apply.

Is AADHAAR Card A Mandatory Document For SAKSHAM Scholarship?

Yes, without Aaadhar card you cannot apply for the scheme as these are required documents.
