Provisional Degree Certificate Overview 

A provisional degree certificate is a document issued by a university before a permanent degree is issued and conferred during convocation. In general, it remains a valid certificate for around 6 months or until the student receives a degree. It has no set expiration date. The Provisional Certificate, however, will no longer be valid after the degree is given by the institute. It is primarily issued as a temporary replacement for the degree, and this certificate serves as documentation that the degree has not yet been awarded.

Provisional Degree Certificate Meaning 

Provisional Certificates are issued to students who have qualified for the University or Board Examination on the basis of their original certificates, and they confirm that students have completed the education stipulated in the certificate. After a convocation, several institutions distribute the original certificates. A provisional degree certificate is issued until the actual certificate is received. The provisional degree certificate is also taken into account by organizations or corporations when employing people for jobs. 

For Example- If a student wishes to pursue further education, institutions will recognize this certificate. 

The provisional certificate becomes invalid whenever the applicable institution or college grants the original degree. It has not expired as of yet. It is commonly used while applying for higher education or a job-

1. It includes the student's name and the course taken.
2. It is only transitory.

The provisional degree includes information such as the student's name, the name of the course from which he or she graduated, the division obtained while completing the degree, and so on.

Use of a Provisional Degree Certificate 

The following are the uses of a provisional certificate-

1. It serves as an affirmation or confirmation that the degree has not yet been conferred.
2. This accreditation is useful when understudies pursue additional schooling or employment as their talents communicate a fundamental position.
3. It serves as documentation that the understudy has completed the teaching of that specific college.
4. The provisional degree includes details such as the student's name, the course from which he or she graduated, the grade earned while completing the degree, and so on.
5. However, this should be assured just after one has been working for more than two years.
6. Please keep in mind that the certifications are just temporary.
7. However, even if one shows this certificate, one will have graduated.
8. While certifications are vital, the quality of education should be prioritized.
9. Certificates simply serve to certify a talent that you already possess.

Procedure to apply for Provisional Degree Certificate

Students who require a provisional certificate may apply online. Students are urged to follow the steps below when applying for a digital provisional certificate-

1. Register and complete the online form accessible on the DU website's examination portal.
2. Upload a soft copy of the photo and scanned signature.
3. Upload a soft copy of the mark sheet.
4. Deposit a non-refundable charge of 500/- per copy online at the payment gateway for the issue of a provisional certificate.
5. After completing the online process and paying the specified charge, the candidate will obtain an acknowledgment receipt and a receipt number.
6. It signifies that the candidate's request for the granting of a provisional certificate has been provisionally accepted subject to verification.
7. In the event that you do not get the acknowledgment, please submit a copy of the completed online application, fee receipt, and all uploaded documents to certificate@exam1.du.ac.in.
8. A provisional certificate will be provided within ten days of the documents being verified.
9. Students should have all of their information ready before filling out the online form, especially their University Enrolment Number. 
10. Department, College, and Centre Students should get in touch with their relevant college, department, and center.

How to apply online for Provisional Degree Certificate?

• Steps to Follow-

1. Click the link for an online application for a provisional certificate.
2. After entering the roll number, an OTP will be registered on the given mobile number and email address. 
3. Enter the OTP to log in and complete all essential fields, as well as upload the scanned copies of documents.
4. Fill out the Result Verification Excel file, save it as a PDF, and upload it.
5. Make a duplicate of the grade cards from the first to last semester. (Tabulation is only acceptable in the last semester.)
6. Scan a copy of the signed promise for No-Dues (format accessible on the following page).

• Payment Details-

1. Fee payment via payment gateway: Rs. 1500/- for Degree Certificate.
2. Receipt: Save the receipt and show it to the inspection cell for signing (if needed). Keep it for future reference.

• Provisional Degree Certificate Distribution-

You will receive a scanned copy of the signed Provisional Degree Certificate at the registered email address within 15 business days. When the institute reopens, the candidate can pick up a hard copy from the test cell.

1. A provisional certificate issued by a university remains valid until the final degree is conferred by the relevant university or institution.
2. The Delhi High Court brought this up after a student was refused admission to Delhi University on the basis of a temporary certificate.
3. The Justice went on to say that denying admission on the basis of a temporary certificate was not sustainable because the candidate already held a genuine certificate issued by Garhwal University.
4. As a result, there is no expiration date specified on it, indicating that it is valid until the final decision is issued. 
5. The provisional degree certificate serves as documentation that the original certificate has not yet been issued. 
6. Until the final degree arrives, the certificate is essential. 
7. It can be used for future opportunities such as employment or higher education. 
8. Please remember to obtain the final degree whenever it is available.
