Whether it's school life or the one in university, students often face some academic challenges at times. With several tests, projects, assignments, research, and more, students often end up feeling overwhelmed and stressed. The consequences of these academic challenges are seen in all personal, professional, social and spiritual fronts of the student.

It is important for students to overcome these challenges well in time, before the consequences become beyond repair. In this blog, you will find some ways to overcome these academic challenges faced by students, and how to work towards success. But before we begin with the tips, let’s first consider some major challenges that many students face these days.

Overcoming Academic Challenge

Time Management:

These days, there are many assignments, projects and deadlines in schools and colleges. These things often lead to a lot of stress for students. Which is why students find it difficult to complete all in enough time. This is why it is essential for students to learn how to manage their limited time.

Lack of Motivation:

We all often procrastinate on our tasks. Sometimes even though we are aware of the deadlines, we still don’t work on the tasks. Just like this, some students find it difficult to even sit down to study. This is usually because they are unable to find the motivation to study.

Feeling Homesick:

Many students living in Student Accommodation faces a tough time adjusting to the new environments. Of course, the comfort of home is different, and getting the same in a new country, in a different room, is a challenge.

Unable to understand new concepts:

Sometimes the curriculum involves some subjects that students are weak at, or have no interest in. Or sometimes, new concepts are tricky, and students find it difficult to understand. For example, a student may face difficulty in comprehending a Mathematics question.

Some general and common academic challenges faced by students have been mentioned above. But how to overcome them? Let’s read some tips in detail.

Time Management:

Firstly, it is crucial to have a set timetable and follow it. This is important for everyone. But especially for students who complain of not getting enough time to complete their assignments or study. To fight this, students just need to create a timetable for themselves, where they can allot different times to different things. For example, every day from 5pm to 7pm, you will study xyz subject, and more. By doing this, you will have your day prepared in front of you, and you can follow the timetable without wasting any time.

Reward & Punishment:

While this technique is a famous one in Psychology, this can also be used in daily life. The concept is quite general, when you study for two hours a day, reward yourself with something that you like, such as ice cream. And if due to any reason, you fail to follow the study routine that you made, you must punish yourself. This punishment can include doing something that you don’t like. For example, cancelling your plans with your friends.

Seek Help:

Sometimes no matter how much we try ourselves; we are often faced with failure. But this does not mean that we must give up on our tasks and dreams. When facing such problems, it is best to take help from a professional with whom you feel comfortable. It can be anyone – your professor, your best friend or even a counsellor. Sometimes the problems are deeper than those that are seen on the surface, and therefore, it is essential to know that you are not alone.

Use of Technology:

Sometimes we read one line, and then read it again, and again. But we still don’t get it! But no matter how many times you read them; you seem to zone out? Maybe it's time to use the amazing technology that is available. In today’s time, notes, lectures and sample tests are available all over the internet. And to understand concepts, YouTube has proven to be many students’ getaway.

Make Realistic Goals:

It is essential for students to realize what goals they are making when they make them. The goals should always be specific and realistic. If they are not, it often leads to feelings of disappointment and anxiety. For example, a student who struggles with Mathematics, and has never got more than 20/50 in his exams. If he suddenly decides that his goal is to get 50/50 in his next exam, that may be quite unrealistic.

Collaborate with peers:

If you have always been a student who memorizes by teaching another friend, then you may face challenges studying alone. Which is why students must collaborate with their peers, make schedules for studying with them, and ask for help whenever needed. By doing this together, you will overcome your challenges and learn better.

Take Breaks:

Just because your exams are around the corner, does not mean you must study 24*7. To relax your mind, remember to take breaks during your study sessions. A 10-15minute break is usually sufficient to relax the mind, and not lose focus at the same time. During this time, you can take a walk around your block, talk to your roommate, listen to some music, and other such soothing things. Remember, having a healthy mind is always necessary for the best results.

Communicate Openly:

Always remember that it is not just okay to ask for help, but rather important. It is very important not to keep your problems inside, and rather discuss them with your loved ones. If you are persistently facing problems in studying, then you must communicate with people. You can also try talking to a counselor. The idea is to talk to someone who you feel comfortable with. It can be your friends, parents, significant other, and more. Sometimes, even journaling can help in venting out and allows you to introspect.

To Summarize

In such difficult times where students are facing difficulty in coping with stress, education has become a problem. Whether its overloaded assignments, inability to memorize concepts, or simply zoning out. It is natural to feel sad when such things happen.  But students don’t need to worry any more. Just follow the simple and general tips given above, which will help you in overcoming your academic challenges, and move towards success.
