In cases where two or more candidates achieve the same marks in the NEET UG results, they won't be assigned the same rank on the merit list. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has established a tie-break mechanism for such scenarios. The following parameters are considered in the event of tied scores:

1. Candidate with higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,
2. Candidate with higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,
3. Candidate with higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,

Initially, the NTA announced a change in the tie-breaking criteria for NEET 2024, intending to replace the consideration of the proportion of correct answers with a draw of lots. However, this decision was reversed within a month. The original tie-breaking criteria for NEET 2024 are outlined below:

1. Candidate with higher marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,
2. Candidate with higher marks in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,
3. Candidate with higher marks in Physics in the Test, followed by,
4. Draw of lots using the computer or IT with no human intervention.

Until 2022, NTA also considered factors such as candidates' age and application number in descending order for tie-breaking. However, these criteria were eliminated for NEET 2023.

NEET 2024 Result and Merit List

NTA publishes merit lists for candidates based on their NEET results, categorizing them by their respective categories. Additionally, an overall NEET merit list is released, encompassing details of all successful candidates. Following this, NTA shares these merit lists with different bodies managing the NEET counseling process for national and state quota seats. Subsequently, MCC and other counseling authorities utilize these lists to formulate their own merit or seat allotment lists.

Types of Merit Lists

Overall Merit List: This list comprises the names and ranks of all NEET candidates. It is the primary merit list compiled by NTA and is distributed to all national and state counseling bodies.

15% All India Quota (AIQ) Merit List: This list includes only those candidates who qualify for the NEET UG result. It is created by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

State Quota Merit List: Each state formulates its own counseling merit lists for 85% of state quota seats. These lists feature candidates who qualify for the NEET 2024 result and register for the respective state's counseling.

Validity of NEET Result 2024

The validity of the NEET 2024 result varies depending on the location of the institute where the candidate intends to apply. Here's how it works:

For institutes located in India: The NEET UG result remains valid for the current academic session only for candidates seeking admission to MBBS courses within India.

For institutes outside India (foreign universities): The NEET result 2024 is anticipated to be valid for three years for candidates aspiring to pursue MBBS courses abroad.
