The Marcos Commandos, also known as Marine Commandos – India's formidable special forces unit known for their unparalleled skills and unwavering dedication. Marcos is the best commando in India. Marcos has received international recognition for their professionalism. The unit was established in February 1987 to respond to the growing challenges in maritime security and terrorist activities off the Indian coast. This special unit of the Indian Army was developed on the lines of the American Navy SEALs and the British Special Boat Service (SBS). They are elite warriors and highly skilled. They are adept in air, water and land warfare and are excellent in maritime operations and scounter-terrorism.
The Navy provides all its serving officers with life insurance coverage at a very minimal monthly premium.

How to Join Marcos Commando?
The motto of the Marcos Commandos is “The Few The Fearless”, which reflects the challenging nature of the training. Very few candidates are able to reach its final selection. But those who do so become synonymous with bravery. To become a Marcos Commando one must have the following qualifications:
Gender: Male
Age: 20 years
Qualification: Must be a sailor or officer in the Navy
Marcos Commando Selection Process
Candidates must be exceptionally strong and physically fit before joining the Marcos Commando because its entire selection process is difficult. Let us know about it in detail:
Marcos Commando: Pre Selection
- The three-day process that tests physical endurance also includes an eligibility test.
- Only about 20% candidates are able to clear this stage.
Marcos Commando: Selection
- A five-week process of challenging tasks, including ‘Hell Week’.
- Tasks included long marches, ammunition training and sleep deprivation.
- A challenging experience for strong-willed individuals.
- Marcos Commando: Initial Qualification Training (Basic SF Training)
- 10 week program at INS Abhimanyu.
- This includes weapons handling, ammunition and explosives training, blind combat, close-quarter battle training, kayaking, photography, ship intervention drills, stewardess rescue and recapture of offshore installations.
- 3 week basic parachute course and basic combat divers course.
Marcos Commando: Probation Period (Advanced SF Training)
- Combat free-fall training, counter insurgency training, anti hijacking and anti piracy training, covert operations, surveillance and reconnaissance, amphibious operations, unconventional warfare, language training, submarine operations, sniper competency, and training on shoulder launched missiles.
- 4 week high altitude commando course and desert warfare school.
Marcos Commando Salary 2024
The salary of Indian Navy Marine Commandos is determined by the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC), and their salary structure includes several important components:
- Basic Pay: The basic pay of a Marine Commando can be Rs 25,000 per month.
- Ship Driving Allowance: Apart from their basic pay, they get ship driving allowance of Rs 8,500 to 10,000.
- Marcos Allowance: In recognition of their unique role, Marine Commandos are awarded Rs 25,000.
- Allowances for different posting areas:
- In difficult areas an additional 20% of their basic pay is provided.
- Rs 16,900 is given as allowance in highly active areas.
- Field area personnel get field area allowance of Rs 10,500.
- In designated “peace zones” they receive a peace zone allowance of Rs 35,000.
- Field Area Allowance: Rs 16,900 (only for field area postings)
- Field Area Allowance: Rs 10,500.
