The Department of Science and Technology's INSPIRE scholarship 2024 programme offers a variety of scholarships to qualified young people interested in pursuing science, from high school to college and beyond. Inspire Scholarship 2024: Eligibility for INSPIRE Scholarship?

The INSPIRE scholarship selection procedure is based mostly on outstanding persons' academic excellence. Candidates for the INSPIRE SHE Scholarship must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must have successfully finished their Class 12 schooling.
  • They should have taken Natural Sciences courses at either the B.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. levels.
  • Applicants should be between the ages of 17 and 22.
  • Candidates must rank in the top 1% of students based on their aggregate Class 12 board exam scores.

INSPIRE Scholarship 2024: Renewal 

The renewal of the Inspire Scholarship 2024 is mostly determined by the candidate's academic achievement. Students must qualify for renewal.

  • Keep the performance report and mark sheet for 12 months after the results are announced.
  • Students who have received 60% or better marks (equivalent to a GPA of 7.0 or above) in their university/college examinations are eligible to continue receiving the DST Inspire Scholarship in 2024.
  • Students who did not take the exams or did not get the required scores would not be eligible for scholarship renewal.

INSPIRE Scholarship 2024: Document Required

When you apply for the Inspire 2024 scholarship, please attach scanned versions of the following documents:

  • Passport-size photo (required for all candidates)
  • 10th grade mark sheet (required for all applicants).
  • 12th grade mark sheet (required for all applicants).
  • Caste Certificate (applicable to OBC/SC/ST applicants)

INSPIRE Scholarship 2024: Benefits

The scholarship has a yearly value of INR 80,000. Each student will get a monthly scholarship of INR5,000, for a total of INR60,000 annually. All SHE scholars must participate in summer research projects guided by established researchers at recognised research centres across India. They will also be given an annual summer mentorship grant of INR 20,000. Upon completion of the project, scholars must submit a Project Report and a Certificate from their mentor within the timeframe specified.

INSPIRE Scholarship 2024: Status 

Due to the high volume of applications, the selection procedure takes at least four months from the deadline. Once selected, all candidates will get a Provisional Offer Letter via their web portal account, confirming their scholarship status. Provisionally selected students must join in to the online site to view and download their offer letter. The list of selected and rejected students will be prominently published on the INSPIRE Web Portal's home page. Selected candidates must upload the appropriate documentation to their online portal within the timeframe mentioned in the offer letter to allow for further processing by the Department.

INSPIRE Scholarship 2024: Terms & Conditions

To be eligible for this award, applicants must meet a few conditions. The following is a list of terms and requirements that a candidate must consider while applying for the Scholarship:

  • INSPIRE-SHE is awarded to students for a five-year period, beginning with the first year of B.Sc., BS, Integrated M.Sc/MS, or until the course is completed, whichever comes first.
  • Candidates must submit a comprehensive application, since incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • The INSPIRE scholar must open a standard Savings Bank Account with any State Bank of India (SBI) branch only. The account must be in the applicant's name and not in a joint account.
  • For the scholarship to be released, the shortlisted candidates must submit a year-by-year performance report (signed by the Head of the Institution) as well as their BSc, BS, International MSc/MS course mark sheet. In the case of universities, the head of the institution is the Vice-Chancellor/Registrar/Dean of Science, but in colleges, it is the Principal/Vice-Principal/Proctor/Officer-in-Charge.
  • The Head of the Institution must clearly state in the performance report whether or not the scholarship should be continued for that academic year.
  • For the first time, the scholarship is awarded only after the performance report and mark sheet of the first-year B.Sc, BS, or International M.Sc/MS students have been approved. If the candidate's academic performance is good, a two-year scholarship worth INR 1,20,000 is released during the candidate's second year of B.Sc, BS, or International M.Sc/MS.
  • Candidates receiving any other scholarship from other sources are ineligible to receive this scholarship.

With its inception in 2008, the budget reallocation is Rs. 2200 crore.
