IIT Placements 2024 Latest Updates: The placement season has started for colleges and universities, and as we come to the end of this year and season, phase 1 of placements for many colleges, including the top-notch IITs, has already closed. While these colleges have seen a decent number of placements till now, the reports have been stating otherwise. The demand for job seekers is likely to be less than in previous years, leading to almost a 30% dip in this season’s placement session(s) for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

Why are IIT placements in 2024 a concern?

As compared to last year's placement season in IITs, this year has seen a decline. This has now become a matter of rising concern in IIT placements all around, and a significant number of IITians are struggling to find jobs. While there has been a drop in the placements as a whole, there has also been a decrease in the number of companies that have visited IIT(s) as compared to last year’s placement sessions. With AI taking over and now that most of the work can be done via automation, companies, and recruiters find it efficient and effective to cut human or manual costs, thereby leading to a decrease in demand for manmade jobs.

How is tech slowdown affecting IIT Placements?

In times where technological advancement is inevitable and where AI can do almost anything and everything, companies find it extremely easy to use these platforms and hence do not wish to hire a set of graduate students to write these codes. It’s almost ironic how the IITs are training students to build codes to develop better technology, while the same AI technology is reducing the need for manmade jobs. With AI, it has now become easier to understand complex technologies.

Other considerable reasons for the decline:

Surely, IIT placements have been fewer as compared to other years. An important factor in such a decline is the tech slowdown. Other reasons that have impacted placements in IITs include less demand for technology-related jobs, cost-cutting by companies and recruiters, and not many vacancies. Another significant reason is the gap between taught and used. This means that IITs may need to be more advanced in their curriculum but are still teaching the basics of technology, while the companies are demanding advanced levels from the beginning.

So is no one in the IIT getting placed?

With so many concerns and the observed decline, the real question is, “Is anyone getting placed then?’ Yes. It is just that there is a decline in the IIT placements as compared to last season and the overall process of placements has been slowed down, but students are getting placed with good companies. The placements are still going on and the IITians are hoping to get placed with their dream jobs and companies.
