IIM Selection Process 2024
There are three stages of admission into IIMs. These stages are described below.
Round 1: Shortlisting based on CAT 2023 cut-offs
Candidates need to appear for the CAT Exam 2023. Once the results for CAT 2023 are declared, candidates who fulfill the cut-off criteria will be able to apply for the WAT/GD-PI of each IIM. Applications should be made through the official website of the IIMs by logging in with their CAT IDs and submitting their CAT score and name.
Round 2: Screening of candidates for WAT/GD-PI
Now, based on the CAT score and other profile records of the candidates, interview letters for the WAT/GD-PI round are sent to them. The interview round will be conducted between February and April 2024.
Round 3: CAT Composite Score Calculation and Final Selection
This is the final stage of the IIM selection process. In this round, the CAT composite score of each candidate is taken into account and the final selection for each IIM is done.
What is the CAT Composite Score and How is it Calculated?
The CAT Composite Score is the overall score out of 100, secured by the candidate during the final selection round. The CAT composite score is calculated based on some factors such as academic scores, graduation scores, interview performance, and a few more. All the factors that determine the composite scores are described below:
Parameter for CAT Composite Score | Description |
Class 10 Score | Percentage/CGPA scored in Class 10 is taken into consideration. |
Class 12 Score | Percentage/CGPA scored in Class 12 is taken into consideration. |
Graduation Score | The total percentage/CGPA scored in the 3-year or 4-year degree program. |
CAT Score | The total percentile score obtained in the CAT exam. |
WAT GD/PI | Marks are allotted based on the performance of candidates in the interview. |
Academic Diversity | Fair representation of students from diverse streams is encouraged. Hence, extra points are given to candidates from non-engineering backgrounds. This varies for each campus. |
Gender Diversity | Extra points are given to female and transgender candidates to ensure fair representation of genders. This varies for each campus. |
Work Experience | Extra points are given to candidates who have prior work experience. The points range from 1 to 5. The points vary for each campus |
IIM Admission Process 2024
- Candidates who surpass the final stage of selection for admission into the IIMs, are informed about the same through mail.
- They need to confirm their admission by filling out the offer acceptance form and paying a certain amount as an admission acceptance fee which later gets adjusted in the first installment of the tuition fees. In case the candidate fails to submit the offer acceptance form and pay the admission acceptance fee within the deadline, their seat will be offered to the next best candidate.
- There is also a provision for a candidate to postpone his/her admission by a maximum of two years in case they want to gain some work experience before joining the postgraduate course. 10% of seats are kept on hold for such candidates.
