IIM CAP 2024 is the selection process conducted by the nine new IIMs for admission to its MBA/PGDM programs.
What is IIM CAP?
IIM CAP stands for Indian Institute of Management Common Admission Process. It is a shortlisting process for admission into MBA or PGP programs of the nine newly formed IIMs, which started operation between 2010-2011, and 2015-2016. Every year, one IIM out of these participating IIMs is responsible for conducting CAP. Under this selection process, candidates will have to appear for a single WAT-PI round.

There are a total of 13 new IIMs, out of which 9 will participate in CAP 2024. Below is a list of all the nine new IIMs participating in CAP 2024.

The new IIMs that have opted out of IIM CAP 2024 and will conduct their final admission round separately are IIM Nagpur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Rohtak, and IIM Visakhapatnam.
IIM CAP 2024: Important Points
- The institute, which will conduct IIM CAP 2024, will be announced in January 2024.
- Admissions are based on CAT scores and will be conducted after the declaration of the CAT results.
- The registrations will begin in January 2024.
- Admissions are expected to be held between February and April 2024, and the final list for IIMs and IIM CAP will be declared in May 2024.
- The admission status will be available on the institute's website, and the candidate can check it by logging in using their CAT 2023 login credentials.
How to Apply for IIM CAP 2024?
The steps to apply for admission are as follows:
- Log in to the website of the conducting institute.
- Click on the IIM CAP 2024 link.
- Go to candidate login, and then click here.
- Enter the CAT registration ID and password, and then click on Submit.
- Now, fill out the CAP form and upload the required documents.
- Finally, click on Submit.

Admission Process for New IIMs: CAP 2024
The steps taken by the CAP in conducting the IIM for admission into the new IIMs are listed below.
- A common list will be prepared by the CAP conducting IIM, which will contain all the candidates shortlisted.
- These candidates will be called for the Personal Interview (PI) round.
- The CAP conducting IIM will send an email to the candidates, containing details of the date, time, and venue for the PI round.
- The PI round will be common for all the new IIMs participating in CAP 2024.
- Every IIM will now make a list by combining CAT-2023 scores, the PI scores, and any other required scores of each individual.
- Depending on this combined score, admission will be offered to the candidates.

IIM CAP 2024 Registration: Documents Required
Some important documents of the candidates are required for the application of IIM CAP 2024. These documents are:
- Any photo ID proof (Aadhar, PAN, Passport, Election ID, etc)
- Passport-size photo.
- Signature of the candidate.
- Class 10 and 12 passing certificates.
- Marksheet of all the semesters of graduation.
- Degree Certificate.
- Provisional Degree Certificate for recent graduates who haven’t received the original degree certificate yet.
- If the candidate has work experience, they need to provide the experience letter and relieving letter of all their previous employers.
- Candidates who are currently working need to provide a service certificate from the current employer or the offer letter with the last two month’s payslip.
- They also need to provide the CAT 2023 scorecard.
IIM CAP 2024: Shortlisting Process
The shortlisting process for IIM CAP is the same as the shortlisting process for older IIMs. There are three stages, based on which a list of shortlisted candidates is released. These are:
- Students are shortlisted based on the CAT cut-off. Those who clear the cut-off are invited for the next round of shortlisting.
- The next round is WAT GD/PI, which is the Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview.
- The final shortlisting list is then generated based on the CAT Composite score, and admission is offered based on that.
What is the CAT Composite Score and How is it Calculated?
The CAT Composite Score is the overall score out of 100 secured by the candidate during the final selection round. The CAT composite score is calculated based on some factors, such as academic scores, graduation scores, interview performance, and a few more. All the factors that determine the composite scores are described below:
IIM CAP 2024: CAT Cut-offs
The cut-off for the CAT exams is listed below for each section. Clearing the cut-off will ensure the candidate is eligible for the next round of the selection process.
IIM CAP 2024: Written Ability Test (WAT)
The written ability test is an important test for the second round of the shortlisting process. However, it wasn’t conducted for two consecutive years by many IIMs due to the pandemic.
- The test duration ranges between 15 minutes and 30 minutes.
- The marks obtained in WAT contribute to 10%-30% of the total score.
- The WAT assesses certain abilities of the candidate. These are clarity of thoughts, simplicity of expression, comprehensiveness of perspective, and robustness of reasoning.

IIM CAP 2024: Personal Interview (PI)
The Written Ability Test is followed by the Personal Interview round. It is a very important round in the IIM CAP Selection Process.
- The PI round is done to assess the ability of candidates to express themselves with confidence and clarity.
- The selection panel consists of 2–4 experts who examine the candidates through the interview.
- The questions asked in the interview include topics such as Personal life, Academics, Work experience, extracurricular activities, perspective on different issues, etc.
- To ace the PI round, candidates should work on their communication skills and public speaking skills
