PSI POLICE FULL FORM

PSI Stand for the Police Sub Inspector, PSI is an acronym for this position. The lowest-ranking police officer authorized to present a charge sheet in court is a police sub-inspector or SI. In the Indian Police Force, it is usually ranked. The British introduced it as a police rank in India and other South Asian nations.

An SI is in charge of his assigned police station, is in charge of how the station is usually run and is in charge of keeping peace and order in his area of responsibility. SI can look into any case that falls under the jurisdiction of his police station.

However, an SI cannot examine cases assigned to higher-ranking police officers. The constables below them and the more senior members of the police force are also connected through the sub-inspectors.

How to Prepare for PSI Exam ?

 Many youths appear in this recruitment examination many times, but do not get success, because they do not have accurate information related to educational and physical qualifications to become a sub-inspector of police or SI. 

To prepare for the post of sub-inspector i.e. sub-inspector, it is mandatory for a person to pass in the examination as well as in the physical ability test. Under the preparation of Sub Inspector, one should keep preparing according to the prescribed syllabus and along with it focus should be on physical efficiency. By adopting this process continuously, those who meet that set standard, they definitely get success. After passing the written and physical test, the candidate is called for interview.

What are the Roles and Responsibilities of PSI?

In addition, the official in command of the police station, a police sub-inspector, performs a variety of duties:  

  • Effective leadership, operation, and management of the station and its staff
  • Keeping track of the police station’s registrations and paperwork and examining cases and acquiring information 
  • Safeguarding, providing protection, and preventing crime
  • Maintaining watch over known troublemakers, sensitive places and setting up regular patrols inside the area of jurisdiction
  • Enhancing local public relations and spreading goodwill
  • Promoting goodwill and improving public relations in the area
  • Maintaining public safety, making arrests of offenders and suspects
  • Conducting searches of homes and properties
  • Updating higher officials on active investigations and cases and safeguarding border regions and preventing illegal immigration

What are the Prerequisites for Becoming PSI?

Moreover, the prerequisites for becoming a PSI is as follows:

  • A minimum prerequisite for becoming a police sub-inspector is having a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Any stream is acceptable, but you must achieve a minimum of 50% of the required marks to qualify
  • Each state has a different minimum age limit for this. The majority of the time, it is between 18 and 28 years old, while there are other categories where age restrictions do not apply
  • Candidates are required to register for an examination  after fulfilling the requirements.
  • The next step is a written examination and if the candidate clears this stage then comes the physical examination named as Physical Standards Test (PST). 
  • Minimum Height for Female candidate: 157 cm
  • Minimum Height for Male candidate: 170 cm and Chest Measurement: 80cm-85 cm

What if I fail my PSI exam?

An applicant who misses the scheduled exam date must also use PSI's Examination Scheduling Service to reschedule an exam at PSI's test centers or CDI's exam sites. There will be an examination rescheduling fee.

What is PSI's responsibility?

According to Indian Police rules and regulations, the lowest rank officer can file a charge sheet in court and is typically the first investigating officer. Their subordinate officers can only investigate cases on their behalf and cannot file charge sheets.
