EBC Scholarship: The full form of EBC is Economically Backward Class. The Government of Maharashtra awards the EBC Scholarship or the Economically Backward Class Scholarship to the candidates belonging to the EBC category to help them complete their education.  The scheme involves giving 100% fee concessions for various Undergraduate and Post-Graduate courses in engineering, medicine, agriculture, and other courses. The scholarship is strictly meant for those who belong to the EBC category.

There are various Economically Backward Class Scholarships that the Maharashtra Government gives in support to educate the students who fall under this category. The scholarship a candidate is entitled to will depend on the eligibility and course applied for. It must be noted that the scholarship application is filled out online through the official website - mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in. The Maharashtra Government provides the EBC Certificate to those underprivileged students who cannot afford the education on their own. It includes families who are below the poverty line and also those families whose annual income is less than double the Poverty Line.

EBC Scholarship Eligibility 

To apply for the EBC Scholarship the students must be aware of its eligibility criteria. Only those students who fit the eligibility criteria and satisfy the criteria fully will be entitled to receive the scholarship. Check the EBC Scholarship Eligibility Criteria below.

  • The candidate must have a Maharashtra Domicile
  • Applicant must be from the Economically backward Class
  • Applicants belonging to the Karnataka border may apply
  • Applicant's bank account should be linked to their Aadhar Card
  • Applicants should not have applied for any other scholarship in the particular year
  • Applicants must have enrolled in the Common Admission Process (CAP)
  • For applicants whose family income is less than 2.5 lakhs, no minimum percentage criterion is required in the previous class
  • For applicants whose family income is more than 2.5 lakhs and less than 8 lakhs, a minimum of 50% marks are required in the previous class (Class 10)
  • Applicant must intend to study in Classes 11 and 12

EBC Scholarship Documents Required

To apply for the EBC Scholarship, the applicants must submit the following documents. All the documents mentioned below are mandatory to be submitted else the scholarship may not be awarded to the applicant.

  • Domicile certificate
  • Declaration certificate (Undertaking of Parents/Guardian about the number of children/beneficiaries)
  • Copy of Fee certificate
  • Copy of Leaving certificate
  • Death certificate of Father/Mother if not alive (If applicable)
  • Common Admission Process (CAP) allotment letter
  • Copy of bank passbook or cancelled cheque
  • All previous marksheets (From class 10th to last exam appeared for)
  • Gap affidavit on stamp paper (In the case of Gap in the previous year)
  • Certified Income Certificate attested by Tahsildar
  • AADHAAR card copy
  • Attendance certificate

EBC Scholarship Non-Eligibility

While applying for the scholarship it is important to ensure that the student does not belong to the category of ineligible candidates. Below is the list of the ineligibility criteria, i.e. in case an applicant falls under any one of these situations, they are not eligible to apply for the EBC Scholarship.

  • The scholarship is not eligible for those students who have registered in distance education, part-time courses, virtual courses, or similar modes of study
  • Those who did not get admission through DTE/DHE/DMER are ineligible for the scholarship
  • Families whose annual/yearly income is above 8 lakhs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship
  • Applicants who have already applied and the application is approved cannot re-apply
  • Students eligible for the tuition fee waiver plan are not eligible to apply
  • The maximum delay in studies is limited to only two years
  • Individuals who have 2 consecutive drops (i.e. failed the regular course twice back to back) are not eligible to apply

EBC Scholarship Application Procedure

To apply for the EBC Scholarship students need to fill an online application form. The step-by-step procedure to fill out the form is given below.

  • Visit the official website for the EBC Scholarship - mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in
  • Click on the ‘Apply Now’ option, and then go to the ‘New User Registration’ link
  • Fill in the required details and verify the phone number and email address
  • Proceed with the application form and authenticate the Aadhar Card using the OTP or biometrics option
  • Once done, the applicant will be able to log in to the EBC Scholarship portal through the username and password sent to the registered email ID
  • Check all the details filled, and proceed with the EBC Application Form
  • Upload the required documents when prompted and click the ‘Submit’ button once completed
  • Save and take a printout of the application form for future use
