CTET Eligibility Criteria 2024 - Age Limit, Qualification, Attempts

CTET 2024: The Central Teacher Eligibility Test or commonly known as the CTET Exam is a national-level examination conducted twice a year for the recruitment of primary and elementary-level teachers. The exam is conducted in offline mode by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The 19th edition of the CTET 20204 exam is scheduled for 7th July 2024, and the admit card is likely to be released by 22nd June 2024 on the official website - ctet.nic.in. The exam has 2 papers, namely Paper 1 and Paper 2. This year the CTET Exam time has slightly changed. Paper 1 will be conducted in Shift 2 (2 to 4.30 p.m.) and Paper 2 will be conducted in Shift 1 (9.30 to 12 p.m.)

The CTET's first session was conducted on January 21, 2024, and the result for the same was declared on 15th February 2024 followed by the final answer key on 19th February 2024. Candidates can click on the link below to check the January session results.

CTET Eligibility Criteria: To appear for the CTET Exam the candidates must be aware of its eligibility criteria. The CTET Eligibility Criteria includes information about the age limit, number of attempts available, and the educational qualifications required. The CTET Eligibility Criteria is set by CBSE as per the TET Norms framed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The eligibility is different for both papers under CTET. Paper 1 is conducted for teachers who wish to teach primary classes, i.e., Classes 1 to 5, and Paper 2 is conducted for those who are interested in teaching elementary classes, i.e. Classes 1 to 8. Those who want to teach both must appear for both papers.

CTET Eligibility Criteria Key Points

Below are a few key points for the CTET Eligibility Criteria which must be kept in mind at all times:

Recognized Degree/Diploma: Anyone appearing for the CTET Examination must have a bachelor's degree or a diploma from a recognized university/board/institute.

Special Education Programs: Candidates holding a degree or diploma in Special Education must have completed programs accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI)

Requirement for D. Ed Holders: Candidates with a degree in D. Ed (Special Education) must also complete a 6-month NCTE-approved special program in Elementary Education

Subject Eligibility: The minimum educational qualification mentioned in this article applies to the instructors of various subjects like Languages, Social Studies/Social Science, Mathematics, and Science. etc.

Physical Education (PE) Instructors: The PE Instructors must adhere to the standards outlined by the NCTE

Norms for Art, Home Science, Work & Craft Education (CE) Teachers: For teachers in subjects like Arts, Home Science, Work & CE, the eligibility norms established by the state government and other school administrations will apply

Self-Verifying Eligibility: It is the responsibility of the candidate to check and ensure that they meet the CTET Eligibility Criteria to appear for the exam

Final Verification: Candidates must note that their acceptance to appear for the exam does not make them 100% eligible. The authorities will conduct a final verification before the appointment

CTET Additions in Eligibility Criteria: Revised Criteria

The NCTE has made some additions and changes to the CTET Eligibility Criteria for candidates pursuing the Teacher Training Course (TTC). Candidates must carefully go through the same to avoid any issues at the later stages.

  • As per new guidelines, the candidates who are currently enrolled in any TTC can apply and appear for the CTET Exam. Even the candidates whose appointments were challenged are eligible to apply to the TET exam while pursuing the TTC.
  • Candidates with a post-graduation degree must have at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade and a three-year integrated B. Ed-M. Ed course
  • Candidates must meet the minimum requirements laid down in the recruitment rules for teachers by the appropriate government, applicable to the school's location, or the recruitment rules for teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti
  • Qualifying for the CTET Exam does not guarantee appointment rights to the candidate. The CTET only serves as the qualifying exam and the final verification will be conducted by the authorities only

CTET Nationality Eligibility Criteria

The CTET Nationality Criteria says that the candidate must be an Indian Citizen. However, there are certain additions to this which are listed below:

  • The candidate can be a Nepalese
  • The candidate is a Bhutanese
  • The candidate is a Tibetan who came to India before January 1, 1962, to permanently settle in India
  • The candidate has migrated from Pakistan, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, or Burma to permanently settle in India

CTET Certificate Validity

The CTET qualifying certificate for appointment is valid for a lifetime and there is no limit on the number of attempts. A person who has qualified for the exam may appear again to improve their CTET Exam Score.

Who is eligible for CTET?

The CTET Eligibility Criteria is different for 2 papers. For paper 1 the candidates must have qualified the 10+ 2 exam with 50% marks and must have qualified for the 2-year D.El.Ed. exam.
