College of Engineering Pune, widely referred to as COEP Pune, came into existence in the academic year of 1854. COEP can also be referred to as one of the oldest colleges of engineering in India. The college has been affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The college has also been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
COEP Hostel
The COEP hostel was started in 1869 after the establishment of the college. At first, the hostel was a residence for the subordinate officers of the Poona Engineering Class and Mechanical School involved in public works like building dams, canals, railways, and bridges. Thereafter the hostel name was changed to Poona Civil Engineering College Hostel and in the year 1911, it got its current name College of Engineering Poona Hostel, commonly known as the COEP Hostel.
The hostel campus is in the immediate vicinity of the college. Also, the bus as well as the railway station are at a 5 minutes walking distance from the hostel campus.
COEP Hostel Infrastructure
The hostel has 10 buildings with separate blocks for boys and girls. The blocks for boys are named- Purandar, Shivneri, Panhalgad, Torna, Raigad, Pratapgad, Sajjangadand, and Vishalgad. The two girl blocks are named- Jijaoo and Kondhana. The Kondhana and Pratapgad buildings have two stories, the Vishalgad and Jijaoo buildings have four stories, and the other buildings have three stories. The hostel campus accommodates about 1064 boys and 422 girls students. It also has a hostel office, security room, a three-room guest house, nine rector's quarters, and a director's residence. Students mess function on a cooperative basis.
COEP Hostel Amenities
The students have all the basic amenities such as a cot, table, chair, and cupboard in their hostel rooms. The rooms are large, with good ventilation and ample lighting. There are TV sets and carrom in the common room where students can relax and engage in entertainment. The water supply is available for 24 hours. The generator ensures constant electric power supply to messes and common rooms. The college also has a gym and grounds to play cricket, hockey, volleyball, football, basketball, tennis, and jogging. There is also a computer lab with 100 computers accessible to both boys and girls with 48mbps connectivity. Internet connection is available for every room. Room service and maintenance is also available around the clock. Health and medical aid are available in a separate block along with visiting doctors in the hostel premises. Separate groups of doctors tend to girls and boys.

Note: For girl students who are unable to get a college hostel according to the rules, the college is planning to provide a hostel establishment by renting a building and dividing the substantial portion of the rent among the hostellers. The fee for each student is INR 7,500 for three months. Boys messes work on a cooperative basis by the student's committee. The monthly bill is calculated based on real expenses. These expenses come between INR 1200 and INR 1500 monthly. Girls mess works on contract basis with monthly average bill of up to INR 1200 approximately.
