Post–wise Job Description
The Central Armed Police Forces are comprised of 5 posts which are BSF, CSF, CRPF, ITBP, and SSB.
1. Border Security Force (BSF)
The major responsibilities of the BSF are halting trans-border crimes, preventing the unauthorized entry or exit of individuals into/from the Indian Territory, and also curbing illegal activities such as smuggling.
2. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
The CRPF officers play a crucial role in defending against wartime aggression. They are responsible for various tasks such as maintaining law and order by controlling riots and crowds. They are also involved in counter-militancy operations, addressing issues related to left-wing extremism and ensuring the security of Important installations.
3. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
Safeguarding VIPs, banks, and sensitive ITBP installations. They are responsible for monitoring (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) land and preventing unlawful activities across the border, such as smuggling and illegal immigration.
4. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
Securing the Indian borders with Nepal & Bhutan and responding to any instances of illicit (Sashastra Seema Bal) activities occurring within those regions.
5. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
Ensures the security of 356 industrial units
(Central Industrial Security government infrastructure projects, and various Forces) establishments located throughout India.

Rank-Wise CAPF Salary 2024

Eligibility Criteria for CAPF 2024
1. Nationality – Candidates of Indian nationality are only eligible to apply.
2. Age Limit – The lower and upper age limit of the candidates is 20 and 25 years.
3. Qualification – A bachelor’s degree in any specialization from a recognized university is required.
4. Other – Candidates who are in the final year of their bachelor’s degree program and who will achieve the required qualification before the selection can also apply.
CAPF Exam Pattern 2024
1. PAPER 1: The duration of this exam will be 2 hours in which there will be 125 questions and 1/3rd marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. The syllabus includes subjects like Reasoning with the addition of Quantitative Aptitude, General Science, History, Polity, Economy, Geography, and Current Affairs.
2. PAPER 2: The duration of exam 2 will be 3 hours which there will be 7 questions with a total of 200 marks. However, the plus point is that there is no negative marking for any wrong answer. This exam consists of essay writing, argument writing, report writing, precis, passage, and sentence correction.
Career Growth
The CAPF positions have a huge scope of successful career paths for personnel. The promotion pattern varies widely in various CAPFs. The hierarchy which is followed by CAPF is mentioned below:
1. Assistant Commandant
2. Deputy Commandant
3. Commandant
4. Senior Commandant
5. Deputy Inspector General
6. Inspector General
7. Additional Director General
8. Director General
Generally, it takes 6 years for an Assistant Commandant to get promoted to Deputy Commandant. Then, a further 6 years (total 12 years) to get promoted to 21/C. After that, one can become a commandant in 16-20 years of service. And after serving for 3 years one becomes eligible for promotion to DIG. Then After serving as DIG for 4 years, eligibility for becoming IG is fulfilled.
