The Black Cat Commando is one of the most distinguished special forces in India that is well known for its courage, skill, and accuracy. It is an important pillar of the Indian Security Structure. The special force was initially named the National Security Guard (NSG) which was established in the year 1984. The main motive behind the Black Cat Commando is to counter terrorism in India and maintain national security.
The National Security Guard (NSG) was established by the Government of India in the year 1984 as a military effort to drive Sikh extremists out of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. It was during the time of Operation Blue War that this military force originated.
Later in the year 1986, the National Security Guard Act was passed in response to the growing demand for a specialized force that is trained to manage high-risk operations. While, the Black Cat Commando was created to combat terrorism and deal with hostage situations, over the years, it is also responsible for maintaining high-profile VIP security in the country.

The Black Cat Commando is headquartered in New Delhi and functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Within the unit, the NSG is divided into sub-units to look after distinct operations at the same time. These different sub-units make up the structure of the Black Cat Commando.

The selection process of the Black Cat Commando task force is demanding. It includes both physical fitness tests and psychological evaluations of the candidates. The qualifying candidates undergo rigorous training in weaponry, explosive handling, shooting, unarmed combat, and tactical operations.
The Black Cat Commando works for the Government of India. Their salary is structured according to the 7th Pay Commission. As per the guidelines, a Black Cat Commando is eligible for a per month salary that ranges between INR 80,000 to INR 2,50,00 and is based on the years of experience.
They are also provided with a special allowance of INR 27,000 and a deputation allowance of INR 5,000 in addition to their salary. Black Cat Commando personnel are also entitled to other benefits such as a Dearness allowance and Medical allowance.

A Black Cat Commando is given a number of special allowances under the Government of India scheme. This include leave allowance, house rent allowance, travel, allowance, deputation allowance, dearness allowance, and medical allowance.
The NSG or the Black Cat Commando unit has introduced a special component known as the 'Women Commando Force' that recruits female candidates and trains them into conducting special counter-terrorism operations.
The Black Cat Commando unit is made of members from various defence forces. Candidates who wish to join the Black Cat Commando will have to join the Indian Army or other Paramilitary Forces (CRPF, BSF, CAPF, etc.) first. Then they will be selected for the Black Cat Commando on the basis of their performance. It is not possible to join the unit directly.
