The Alagappa University Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) provides high-quality distance learning. The DEC and DEB-approved state university was founded in 1992. The NAAC awarded the university an 'A+' rating. Alagappa University in Karaikudi is the DDE's affiliate.
Under UGC-DEB Regulations 2020, the DDE became the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). The Alagappa University Distance Education offers seven postgraduate courses in English, Bengali, Nepali, Philosophy, Political Science, History, Mathematics, and a B.Com. The Alagappa Distance Education offers high-quality postgraduate and undergraduate programs through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online Learning (OL).
The CDOE aims to prepare students to compete with traditional schools. ICT tools and web-based services have improved teaching-learning delivery. In July 2023, the CDOE announced three undergraduate and five postgraduate programs. The Indian government's e-VBAB scholarship program includes African and Afghan students.

Alagappa University Distance Education Admission Process 2024
Alagappa University's Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) accepts students twice yearly using calendar-year and academic-year admission. Applicants may apply directly to the institution or through its Learning Centres.
Online Application Process:

- Attach the required documents, pay the registration fee via Demand Draft, and send the application to:

- Required two Demand Drafts:
- One is for "The Director, DDE, Alagappa University," payable at Karaikudi.
- One for the respective Learning Centre.
- Application fees: INR 300 for postgraduate courses, INR 100 for other courses.
