AILET 2021 Analysis

The AILET 2021 was conducted on July 30, 2021, across many centers in India. The examination was held in offline mode with the proper safety protocols in check. This time the students got to take not just the question paper, but also a carbon copy of their marked OMR sheets home for a quick evaluation of their performance.

Compared to previous years, the paper could very well be termed as easy. However, considering the length of the paper, we can say that it might have acted as a bit of a deterrent for the students.

AILET 2021 had a total of 150 questions to be attempted in a time span of 90 minutes. The negative marking scheme was also there, but given the difficulty level of the paper, which was Easy, the marking scheme should not act as so much of a deterrent to the students. This was the last year where AILET had five sections in the paper. A quick glance at the paper reveals the following.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the AILET exam tough?

The total duration of the exam is 90 minutes, during which candidates will be presented with a total of 150 questions (for AILET UG courses). Based on the analysis from previous years, the overall difficulty level of the AILET typically remains moderate, though the competition for this exam is notably high.

Is AILET harder than CLAT?

AILET puts more emphasis on Legal Aptitude compared to CLAT, making it slightly tougher in terms of legal knowledge requirements. Additionally, AILET is often regarded as a more knowledge-based test, and the level of difficulty tends to be higher, with direct questions in legal aptitude and reasoning.

Is it difficult to get into NLU Delhi?

Many aspiring law students give exams like CLAT, LSAT, AIBE, SET, AILET, and many more to get admission into the top law colleges of India. To get into National Law University Delhi (NLUD), students need to clear the AILET exam. It is one of the toughest law entrance exams.

How hard is it to crack AILET?

CLAT and AILET exams are not as easy as learning any physics theorem or a mathematics formula that you can just rote learn and then apply. These exams are more analytical based and require that student focus more on the fundamental part so that they can apply their brain while solving or attempting the questions.

Can I get NLU with 2000 rank?

The NLUs offer different types of law courses in India with 5-year LL. B and LL. M courses. The candidates who will get a rank between 1000 to 2000 can also get into one of the NLUs.

Is there any negative marking in AILET?

Yes, for each wrong attempt 0.25 marks are deducted from the total scores. Since, one mark is allotted for each question, candidates will score 1 mark for their correct attempt, however, if their answer is incorrect, they will lose 0.25 marks from the total score. They will, however, be given 0.75 marks for wrong attempt too. The final scores obtained by the candidates will be as under: Correct attempts minus 0.25 x wrong attempts = total score out of 100 Note: In case, candidates leave question unattempted then the exam authority will neither add any marks or deduct any marks from their total scores.

Are there any changes to the AILET syllabus?

No changes have been made in AILET yet, and it will be the same as last year syllabus. The major changes were made in AILET 2022 BA LLB and LLM syllabus only. For instance, the BA LLB question paper will now have only THREE sections (instead of five). The weightage of the three sections has also changed. In the case of LLM, the modified syllabus will have questions from two sections. Also, the tie-breaker procedure has been updated.
