SSC CHSL Detailed Syllabus for Tier 1 Examination

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has now closed the window to apply for the upcoming SSC CHSL 2019 examination and thousands of candidates have already applied for the same. The SSC CHSL Application procedure was started earlier in the month of March @ssc.nic.in.

The computer based SSC’s Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Tier I examination will be conducted from July 1 to July 26, 2019 across the country. Check detailed syllabus here.

Every year SSC conducts the recruitment examination across the country for shortlisting candidates for the posts of Lower Divisional Clerk/ Junior Secretariat Assistant, Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant and Data Entry Operators in various Ministries/ Departments/ Offices of the Government of India.

The SSC CHSL examination is conducted in multiple stages and the final list of candidates is released on the basis of merit as well as government reservation policies. Candidates who will qualify all the stages of SSC CHSL Selection Procedure will be recruited for the various posts as mentioned above. This year the total number of vacancies released is 3259.

SSC CHSL 2019 Syllabus:

The key to crack any examination is to know everything about its syllabus and exam pattern, once this is sorted all you need is to prepare accordingly and ace the examination. SSC CHSL Syllabus particularly for the Tier I examination comprised of English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness. Check here the detailed list of topics to be covered under each section of the syllabus.

English Language:

This particular segment of the examination focus to cover topics which can evaluate a candidate’s understanding of English Language. Questions asked are like Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Antonyms, Homonyms, Spellings/ Detecting misspelled words from a sentence, Idioms, and Phrases, Improvement of Sentences, One word substitution, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts or Shuffling of Sentences in a passage and Comprehension Passages.

General Intelligence:

This particular segment has questions in both verbal and non-verbal forms. Questions will be asked on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic and Number Analogy, Current Trends, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation, Venn Diagrams, Semantic Classification, Symbolic or Number Classification in phrase, Drawing interpretation, Figural Classification, Punched hole/ pattern-folding and unfolding, Figural Pattern-folding and completion, Semantic Series, Numerical series, Embedded figures, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Ability, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence, Word Building, Coding and decoding as well as some other subtopics.

Quantitative Aptitude:

This section covers topics from below mentioned subjects-

Number Systems: This includes computing of whole numbers, solving decimals and fractions and interpret relationships between two numbers.

Geometry: Understanding of basic geometric figures and facts like types of triangles and its centers, Similarity and differences between various geometrical figures, Circle; its chords, tangents, and angles between them.

Fundamental Arithmetical Operations: Ratio and proportions, calculating percentages, average, simple and compound interests, square roots, discount, profit and loss, business partnerships, calculating time and distance or time and work relations.

Algebra: Graphs, linear equations, and elementary algebraic relationships.

Trigonometry: Trigonometric ratios, trigonometric equations, simple problems on relationships of height and distance, identifying trigonometric equations.

Mensuration: Finding the size and interpret formulas of Triangle, Regular Polygons, Circle, Quadrilaterals, Circular Cone, Right Prism, Sphere, Right Circular Cylinder, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base.  

Statistics: Working with data tables, charts, graphs, frequency polygon, histogram, pie chart and bar diagram.

General Awareness:

Question s are asked on general awareness of the environment and impact on society. Questions will mostly be asked about the understanding of our country, its history, culture, economics, geography, general policies, and its neighboring countries.

Candidates who will have a depth knowledge of the topics mentioned above will have a high probability to score well in the Tier I examination and qualify for Tier II of the SSC CHSL where candidates will be asked to write an Essay of 200-250 words and a Letter or Application of approximately 150-200 words.
