MAT 2018: Management’s Status Quo

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a national level entrance test conducted every year by the All India Management Association (AIMA). The MAT scores are relevant for admissions to Management courses (MBA/PGDM) in over 600 Business Schools/ Colleges

MAT is held 4 times in a year, during the months of February, May, September, and December. The last MAT exam was conducted on May 20, 2018. The next MAT Exam will be conducted on September 2, 2018, and September 16, 2018, for Offline and Online modes respectively.

MAT exam is conducted in order to test the general and advanced level aptitude of the candidates in the stream of Management Studies. And this aptitude test is based on 5 important academic aspects.

The main sections in the exam are:

  1. Language Comprehension
  2. Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
  3. Mathematical Skills
  4. Data Analysis and Sufficiency
  5. Indian and Global Environment

MAT Key factors:

  1. MAT exam is conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA).
  2. It is conducted four times in a year.
  3. The test is conducted in both modes, offline (Paper Based Test (PBT)) and online (Computer Based Test (CBT)) modes. The candidates have the option to select any of the two modes.
  4. The entrance dates for paper based and computer based exams are different.
  5. All five sections will have equal weightage of questions, and the questions will be in Multiple-Choice forms.
  6. The Indian and Global Environment section’s score is not counted to calculate the final score in MAT.
  7. The Test Centres are spread across the country.
  8. The venues for Paper Based and Computer Based Test are different.

MAT Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from any recognized University or Board.
  • The candidates who are in their final year of graduation can also apply for the MAT exam in September and December. However, they will get admission provisionally, if selected.
  • There is no minimum marks requirement for the MAT exam. The candidates scoring passing marks are equally eligible.

MAT Registration Process:

Below are a few steps which help in the registration process:

  1. Visit the official website of AIMA, https://mat.aima.in/
  2. Click on ‘New Candidates (Click here) to Register’.
  3. Fill in a valid email address and Date of Birth (DOB) and click ‘Submit’.
  4. The registration’s confirmation will be sent to your email id.
  5. After that, visit the same website and log-in by entering the same email address and DOB which will redirect you to the Application Form Page.

Steps to fill Application Form:

There are 4 actions in the Application form, which are enlisted below as 4 Steps:

Step1- Click on the button ‘Fill Application’. Fill all the relevant details asked. The eligibility criteria will flash on your screen after you fill in the education details and upload the documents for the same. Select the mode of examination you wish to apply for, either Paper Based or Computer Based. Click the ‘Save’ button once done with this section.

Step2- Upload the following images:

  • Photograph- You have to upload a recent passport sized colored photograph against a white background (preferred) or a background with no shadows. A person with spectacles must make sure that there is no reflection on the glasses and the eyes are clearly visible. The ears should be completely visible in the photograph. Caps, hats, and dark colored glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed but it should not cover the face of the candidate. The size of the image should not be more than 75kb and not less than 20kb.
  • Signature- Upload a scanned image of the signature in black ink on a white sheet of paper. Only the signature area has to be covered while scanning, and size of the image shall not exceed 50kb and should not be less than 5kb. However, if the candidates’ signature on the admit card do not match at the time of exam or interview, his/her candidature would be cancelled.

The images should be in .jpeg or .jpeg format only.

Step3- After uploading the images, make the application fee payment through Online Mode only, that is, Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking.  Once the payment is done, the candidates cannot make any changes in the application form.

Step4- After completing the above 3 steps, click on ‘Action 4: View Application’ and take a print out of the form for your record.

*The list of Management Institutes accepting MAT scores will be available from 2nd week of July and onwards. The candidates should hereby, recheck with the institutes’ authorities regarding their status of accepting the MAT score before applying to the same.

MAT Admit Card:

  • The Admit Card contains Candidate's Name, Form No, Roll No, Test Date, Test Time and Test Venue Address.
  • The candidates who opted for Paper Based Test can download their admit cards from the official AIMA website in or after August 26, 2018, and the candidates for Computer Based Test can download their admit cards in or after 8th September, 2018.

MAT Score is acceptable in reputed colleges like Birla Institute of Technology; Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship; School of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad, and others.

However, there are other institutes also, who might not be officially in the list of colleges accepting MAT scores, but they consider the same along with their own admission criteria.
