The NTA (National Testing Agency) administers the Joint Entrance Test (JEE), an all-India common engineering entrance examination for admission to various engineering institutes across the country. It is also recognized as one of the most difficult engineering admission examinations in the world. JEE is split into two sections: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is used to get into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). JEE Main, on the other hand, is utilized to earn admission to Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and National Institutes of Technology (NIT). Only candidates who pass JEE Main are eligible to take JEE Advanced.

Let us now examine the JEE Main Exam Pattern, which is necessary for better planning and scoring in the JEE Main Exam.

JEE Main 2023 Exam Pattern

The JEE Main exam is an objective test (MCQs with four options). Choosing the correct option(s) is important here because it has a negative marking. Negative marking is used to prevent guessing. There are three papers: B. Planning, B. Planning/BE/B. Tech. Candidates must correctly answer 75 out of 90, 77 out of 82, and 100 out of 105 questions. Candidates will receive 4 marks for each question that is correct, and 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect question. There is no negative grading if any of the questions are not attempted.

Tips and Tricks for JEE Main Exam Preparation

As seen below, the entire plan is divided into few major steps as follows:

1. NCERT Books for Core Subjects

Candidates should use NCERT as their handbook for the essential topics of Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Students can rely on the NCERT textbooks as well as the preparation tips and methods provided by their coaching institutes to have a high chance of passing the JEE Main 2023 exam. They should not only go over every topic and practice every formula, but they should also concentrate on the most often asked questions in the exam.

2. Create a Timetable That Can Be Followed

The first step toward success is a well-structured strategy. Making a realistic timeline can help you decide when and how much you should study each day. Stick to your schedule once you've done establishing it. Prioritize the most important topics after dividing the JEE Main Syllabus into equal sections. Set smaller, more manageable goals, like completing a chemistry topic in an hour, to help you remain on track, focused, and resist distractions.

3. Self-study is Important

One of the most challenging issues for engineering students is managing their time for efficient self-study. When you study with a clear mind and eliminate unnecessary distractions, you will realize your actual potential. Simultaneously, self-study deepens understanding of the content and produces questions/doubts that may be addressed later. It's a good idea to clear up any doubts ahead of time to ensure you cover every topic thoroughly.

4. Time Management

When studying for any competitive examination, you must strike a balance between academics and other commitments. You will never be able to finish your syllabus on time if you do not know how to manage time correctly, no matter how hard you try to prepare for the JEE Main exam.

5. Reference Books

There are several reference books available on the market to help you study for JEE Main exams. However, the main trend that JEE Main demonstrates is that, it focuses on understanding rather than rote study and on applying one's knowledge to new and unexpected difficulties. Students can't afford to waste time preparing for the wrong books and study materials. As a result, choosing the correct books becomes important to score high in JEE Main Exam.

6. Previous Year Question Paper and JEE Main Mock Test

It is very recommended that students periodically complete mock test. Mock test can help you analyze your preparation level and enhance your problem-solving habits. Candidates can answer JEE Main free mock tests on the NTA portal or any other website that offers mock tests.

7. Proper Revision

Revise as Much as Possible Because the curriculum is lengthy, you will need substantial revision to help you recall each topic. Revision on a regular basis will increase your knowledge, retention, and comprehension of the topic. It will give you momentum, which will help you remember the JEE Main Syllabus thoroughly. Review important ideas you may have previously learned at least once every two weeks. If you want to pass JEE Main on your first try, you must practice answering test papers, recognizing your shortcomings, and revising it on a regular basis.

8. Positive Attitude

It is vital to keep a positive attitude during the preparation process. Exam performance will suffer as a result of excessive stress. As a consequence, constantly consider the positive outcomes. Never get disheartened if you hit a rut; instead, face the problem courageously and go on. Maintaining a positive attitude will not only aid your JEE Main and JEE Advanced preparation, but will also boost your confidence.
