New benchmarks for quality higher education by Chandigarh University
Ram Nath Kovind, a former president of India, addressed the annual Convocation 2023 at Chandigarh University, Gharuan on Friday and claimed that Chandigarh University has established new standards for high-quality higher education by ranking among the world's top institutions. Over 1400 students—45% of them are women—received undergraduate, graduate and PhD degrees during the annual convocation. Additionally, Gold Medals have been awarded to 22 of 35 females. 35 people in total, 21 of them are girls, have doctoral degrees.
The event's keynote guest, former president Ram Nath Kovind, gave the winners their degrees and Gold Medals. On this momentous occasion, Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University, Dr. (Prof.) R S Bawa, Provost of Chandigarh University, and Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor of Chandigarh University, were also present.
"Chandigarh University has built a good reputation as one of the premier institutions of India within a short span of 11 years, owing to which it has been ranked among the Top Universities of the World," former president Ram Nath Kovind said while addressing the crowd at the annual convocation. By encouraging its students to participate, indulge, and invent, the university has become a hotbed of research and innovation over the years. Chandigarh University has been ranked first in India by the Office of Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indications, Government of India, with more than 703 patents registered in a year.
His convocation speech was supplemented by the following statement: "Educated young is the biggest strength which will power the progress of India in Amrit Kaal, and the New Education Policy established after 34 years seeks to equip the Indian youth for the world of tomorrow. You are not only receiving a degree when you graduate today; you are also receiving new obligations and expectations to give back to the community and the country. He added that India is moving towards women's leadership and empowerment, which is a sign of its promising future. He declared, "Educated girls would support India's prosperity and play a crucial part in transforming it into a Global Knowledge Hub.
"The leadership of India is now respected by the entire world. And the appointment of Ajaypal Singh Banga as President of the World Bank is convincing evidence. The fact that an Indian was appointed to this post for the first time in history is a source of pride for the entire country and its people, according to former president Ram Nath Kovind, who also highlighted how India is gaining prominence on the international stage.
Chandigarh University (CU) chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu greeted the graduates who received their degrees during his speech during the convocation. Convocation, according to him, is the most exceptional and lavish event in everyone's life. "It is expected of the students graduating today to realise their responsibility as the youth of the nation and contribute to its development as they enter the new phase of professionalism," he continued. India is a country where, with perseverance and hard effort, anyone may rise to the top of the government, regardless of background.
In addition, according to Sandhu, Chandigarh University made a strong showing in the QS World University Subject Rankings in 2023, placing first in India for hospitality management, eleventh for engineering and technology, computer science, and information systems, twelve for mechanical engineering, and sixteenth for business and management studies. The famous QS World University Rankings 2023 listed Chandigarh University as the world's youngest university for the first time, placed second among Indian private universities and 21st overall among all Indian universities (public + private) in the 2022 QS World University Rankings, he continued.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh University Pro-Chancellor Dr. (Prof.) R S Bawa congratulated the passing-out students and wished them luck in their future endeavours. He said, “Chandigarh University provides a suitable academic environment to nurture its students into capable individuals, who can take the responsibility of nation-building and take it towards development through their talent, hard work, and dedication.”
