CAT 2018 Registration Process: Check Eligibility, Fee, Reservation and Score card

Common Admission Test popularly known as CAT is the gateway for taking admission in any of the premier institutes of management i.e. Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) spread in different states of India. In the past year 2, 04,267 students appeared for this national level entrance exam for limited seats of 1550 and put CAT in the category of being the most competitive exams in the country.

CAT-2018

This year for the admission of 2019 batch CAT 2018 is scheduled on Sunday, November 25th, 2018 and registration process for the same is already started from August 8th and opens till September 19th, 2018 by 05:00 PM. A detailed list of events related to the entrance exam along with the dates is given below so that aspiring students can plan accordingly.

CAT 2018 Eligibility:

  • A Bachelor's Degree is must for the applying candidate, with minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA from a government recognized institution, candidates applying through reserved category like Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and candidates with physical disability need  45% marks in aggregate at Bachelor's qualifying exam.
  •  Candidates perusing Bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who already have given the final year qualifying exam but are waiting for the results are also eligible for the CAT 2018. However, the seats will only be allocated to such candidate provisionally, only in condition if they are able to submit a certificate from the head of the institute taking responsibility of the candidate information and mentioning that the respective student has completed all the examinations of Bachelor's degree.

Reservation in CAT 2018:

As per the quota and reservation guidelines from Central government of India, IIMs follow the norms and accordingly reservation guidelines are also applied in CAT 2018 for taking admissions in MBA programs. The Reservation is divided in 2 parts one is based on caste and the other is on the physical challenge of the applying candidate. Percent of seats reserved in each category is as per the table below:

CAT 2018 Registration Process:

The registration process for CAT 2018 has already been started from August 8th and still going on and candidates who wish to take the examination can follow the steps as mentioned for registration. It is important to register or else the candidate will not be entrained and will not be eligible to sit for the exam. The 3 major steps for registrations are:

  • Step 1: Visiting the official website www.iimcat.ac.in and fill the registration form with required details to generate a user Id and password which will also be used in future for the events of CAT 2018.
  • Step 2: Next step is to log in on the official website with generated id and password. Fill the application form, chose examination center and make payment of the registration fee.
  • Step 3: After making the payment candidate can submit the application to complete the registration process.

CAT 2018 Registration Fee:

Registration Fee decided for this year CAT examination is slightly increased from the last year.

  • For General and NC-OBC students registration fee is Rs 1,900
  •  For SC, ST and PWD category students registration fee is Rs. 950

CAT 2018 Test Centres:

This year CAT Examination will be conducted in the centers of 147 test cities. Candidate while filling the registration form can choose four preferred location from the options. The allotted examination centre will be mentioned on the admit card.

CAT 2018 Score Card:

Scorecard for CAT 2018 will be published on the official website. This year candidates will also receive their scorecard through SMS on their registered mobile number. No confirm date is available as of now for the release of CAT 2018 results, however, the tentative date is 2nd week of January 2019.

Admissions in IIMs:

It is important to know that each IIM have their own selection process depending on applications received, courses and other aspects, however, CAT score card is must in each of the IIMs. The respective IIM may focus on cut off list, previous academic performance and candidates work experience along with CAT score. Candidates are advised to visit the official website of respective IIM for selection criteria.
